Stream-of-consciousness journal writing is one of my favorite ways to calm down overthinking, worry, and rumination; it provides a portal into your thoughts and emotions, helping you release them and step out of exhausting overthinking loops. Just 15 minutes of this writing, a type of creative flow, can unlock new insights and reduce anxious feelings. You leave the stress of planning and trying to control things and give your subconscious a chance to express itself. You find insights, open a path to new ways of seeing, and release anger, fear, or sadness. This excerpt, from episode 36 of my podcast, Let the Verse Flow (Reduce Overthinking with Stream-of-Consciousness Journal Writing), offers a structured 15-minute journal session to use when life gets overwhelming.
