Hi,
I'm Jenny and welcome to this how-to video.
This isn't about creating the perfect shape.
This is about exploring a pose and finding a way to make it work for you and your body.
Today we're going to work with two different seated positions.
Sukhasana and ardhasidasana.
Sukka means easy or comfortable.
And asana means pose.
And Arda means half.
And Siddha means accomplished or fulfilled.
And then asana means pose.
So the first one is easy pose and the other one is half pose.
Fulfilled or half-accomplished post.
So,
And.
Then there's not a big difference between them.
So explore them and find the one that works for you.
I find that I usually sit in Ardhasirasana.
That's the one that's most comfortable for me.
But before we go into that,
And.
I'd like to talk about different ways to support them.
So they are seated on the floor traditionally.
Uh,
That can be difficult for many people.
So the first thing we do is lift the hips.
So that can be seated on a folded blanket.
It can be on a bolster or not.
A sturdy cushion or a yoga block or even a chair.
So find what works for you.
If you have a block,
Just put it underneath your zipper and then voila!
This makes it easier for the body to let the knees fall down.
And it doesn't matter if you do Sukhasana or Ardhasidasana,
It will help you.
And the next thing we can do.
.
.
Is to use the same block to support the knees.
Because if the body feels it's going to split open,
If you have your legs up here,
Your knees up here,
The body doesn't feel it can relax and it tightens in the groin area and you will never be able to get your knees down.
So if you get something to support you,
A block,
Bolster,
Cushions,
Whatever works for you,
Whatever you have,
In your storage.
So that you can let your knee rest on that support then the body will relax and it will eventually come down.
So that are a few options to help you and if it's difficult to sit upright with your spine straight once again a block or something sturdy and if it's a chair that works too,
Put it underneath you.
And then let your sit bones relax.
Off of it,
So only the soft parts,
Yeah I know,
You get this nice big bum behind you.
Hair.
You push the spine up.
Up and it's very difficult to think into the pose so if I want to curve my spine here,
I need to really work on it because this will keep me upright.
Fairly easy.
So find what works for you here.
And then the difference between the two.
In Sukhasana we have our feet like this.
Underneath so that our lower legs rest.
On the feet.
So this is easy pose,
Sukhasana.
And in Ardha Siddhasana we have one foot.
Close to the pelvis and the other one.
Outside of that.
The biggest difference here is Sukhasana most people find easy to do and most people can do it.
We're talking about people that don't have any injuries or anything else that stops them.
It's broader and can feel a bit more stable.
But otherwise It doesn't matter which one you do.
You find what works for you and in the yoga class find the position that works for you.
It doesn't matter if you're cross-legged in Adhata Siddhasana or even if you have your legs straight out.
If this isn't possible in any shape or form,
Find another version.
What we want to create is.
.
.
A state of Focus.
Awareness but we don't want to become stiff so still soft and easy and a way to Make it easy to sit and breathe.
Do pranayama breath work.
And meditation.
Both of these poses are used in meditation very often.
And mindfulness and just arriving.
Most of my yoga classes start in a seated position to just feel the body,
Listen to the body and arrive not only physically but even bring the head into the space.
And everybody,
Every body is different.
So use this.
These as a starting point and then find what works for you.
Okay?
And if you want to practice these in a class,
You're more than welcome to join me in one of my live sessions on the Insight Timer.
And until then,
I wish you a very Merry Christmas!
Good rest of your day.
So,
Bye for now.
Take care.
