Hello,
My name is Hilary Lafon and I'm so grateful that you've joined me for today's quick pro tip.
Asking for help.
Although it sounds easy,
This is one of the most difficult challenges we can face in our life.
We live in a world where we're told to be independent and to do things on our own.
But in reality,
We need the help of our friends,
Family,
Peers and loved ones to succeed.
So I encourage you to spend a few moments with me today as we cultivate the need to ask for help.
As we grow our bravery,
As we become more courageous to ask when we need help and to accept it graciously.
So wherever this exercise finds you,
Make yourself as comfortable as you can.
See if you can bring an ease to you.
Letting something go in your body,
Whether it's tension,
Noticing how you feel physically and emotionally and let's arrive.
Let's start by closing our eyes or having our gaze be cast down,
Feet flat on the floor.
And let's take a moment to honor our breath by taking three of the deepest breaths you've taken all day.
Inhale all your breath out and inhale deeply for the count of four,
Two,
Three,
Four.
Exhaling for the count of five,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five.
Let's do this two more times.
Exhaling deeply,
Feeling your chest rise and your stomach expand and exhale completely.
One more time together.
Inhale and exhale.
Allow your body to soften and relax.
Allow the tension from the face,
The neck and the shoulders to just wash away.
Allow your chest and your stomach to expand,
Loosening any muscles that are tight.
And now listen to your heart.
There is an area that you need to ask for help.
Could be at work,
At school,
At home.
Maybe you need help with children,
With a task.
Sometimes we spend so much of our energy trying to do it all by ourselves that we forget what a rich community we have.
We are a community species.
We thrive with each other's care and support.
So allow yourself this gift.
Allow yourself to be helped.
Make your life easier.
Exhaling to your heart.
Commit to one thing that you can ask for help with.
You deserve it.
Think of all the times you've helped others.
This is your time.
If your mind has wandered,
Come back to the breath.
Breathe deeply,
Relaxing completely.
What do you need?
I let a little bit longer time pass because that is a tough question.
What do you need?
What do I need?
The million dollar question.
Breathing and settling in.
If your mind wanders again,
Come back to the wonderful breath.
Allow this quick exercise to help you take the chance.
Take the step you most desperately need and you so deserve.
Let's end our time together with a deep breath.
Exhaling everything out.
Taking the deepest breath you've taken all day.
And as you exhale completely,
Let something go to create the space for you to ask for help.
When you're ready,
Open your eyes.
Come back to the here and the now.
Thank you so much for allowing me the precious gift of your time.
Take care.
