Patience is not the ability to wait but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting.
Joyce Mayer.
We've all got big dreams for the future but here's the thing we set goals for our future self but it is our present self that has to do all the work.
Have you ever thought about that?
The future you wants to be fit and healthy but a present you just wants a donut.
The future you wants to be a best-selling author but the present you wants to watch the latest episodes on Netflix.
Our present selves aren't always the most enthusiastic about tackling long-term goals.
It's so much easier to do something when there is an immediate reward right?
But when it's all about delaying gratification,
When the payoff is in the distant future,
That's when the things get tough.
When you make a decision for a happy and fulfilled future you,
The present you rebels and asks hey what is it for me?
If you do something that doesn't give you enough instant gratification the present you will eventually have a tantrum and sabotage your success.
Here's the secret of successful people.
They understand the power of delayed gratification.
They know that by putting off immediate pleasures they open themselves up to even greater rewards down the line.
To me it's not just about enduring the wait.
The key is to delay gratification in the short term to enjoy higher rewards later while creating new ways to experience joy along the way.
In other words how can you enjoy the process?
