Years ago, during a severe drought, I recorded a prayer for rain. At the time, I was thinking about how deeply we depend on what we cannot make or control. The prayer was inspired by words I found from people of different places and walks of life, and by a quieter realisation: rain is not the only thing we ask for. We ask to remember that life itself is a gift, and that the earth sustains us in ways we so easily forget. Under the same sky, we are one. Years later, I returned to this recording. I gave it new music, and added a song that grew from the prayer itself. The prayer still asks for rain. In the song that follows, I learn to lift my hands before the clouds — and perhaps invite you to do the same. To give thanks for what has already been given, while trusting what is yet to come. Perhaps this is what time does to a prayer. It does not always change what we ask. Sometimes, it changes the way we wait.
