Find a position that feels comfortable enough for rest.
You might lie down.
Or remain slightly propped.
Whatever helps your body to feel safe.
You don't have to make sleep happen.
This time is simply an invitation to rest.
If your eyes want to close.
Hot damn.
If not,
That's okay too.
Now bring your attention to your breathing.
There's no need to control it.
Notice the breath coming in.
And gently leaving.
If it feels helpful.
Allow the exhale.
To lengthen just a little bit.
As though the body is sighing on its own.
You might quietly think on the out-breath.
Nothing to manage right now.
As your body rests.
Notice any effort that you're still carrying.
Task unfinished.
Thoughts replaying.
Plans for tomorrow.
You don't have to solve any of it tonight.
Imagine placing those concerns on a shelf beside the bed.
They can wait until the morning.
For now,
There is nothing required of you.
Bring awareness to areas that might hold tension in your body.
As you fall asleep.
Your forehead and eyes.
Let them soften.
As it's sinking slightly.
Your jaw.
And tongue.
Allow your mouth to just rest naturally.
Your shoulders and arms.
Feel their weight being supported.
You don't need to hold yourself up.
In your belly and your chest.
Let the breath move freely.
No guidance needed.
Each release.
Is small.
And unforced.
Thoughts may still appear.
That's normal.
Instead of engaging with them.
Imagine each thought floating past.
Like a cloud in the night sky.
You don't need to follow.
You don't need to push them away.
Your mind can just wander.
And your body can rest.
Notice that your body is already aware.
And knows how to sleep.
You don't have to instruct it your heartbeat.
Your breath.
Digestion.
All continuing.
On their own.
You might quietly remind yourself.
I can let the body take over now.
Rest will come when it's ready.
As this practice comes to a close.
You can allow attention to become fuzzy.
And unfocused.
You don't need to listen closely anymore.
You can let the words fade into the background.
If sleep comes,
Let it come.
If it doesn't.
Rest is still happening.
Nothing more.
Is needed.
