Shakti Prayer

This track is one of two long, deeply meditative Sanskrit chants from the 2012 album “Sacred Chants of Shakti”, composed by Adi Shankara over thirteen hundred years ago, from the Sri Saundarya Lahari text, in praise of the Divine Mother. The devotional words describe the many attributes of the Consort of Shiva, Shakti, including this universe’s total manifestation as a result of the attraction of Shiva and Shakti. Many beautiful qualities of the primordial Goddess are eloquently expounded in these deeply poetic and spiritual verses. The delivery of the clear Sanskrit pronunciation in a slower, very settling style is conducive to yoga practice, meditation, yoga nidra, and/or nourishing sleep. The haunting vocals are provided by one of India’s greatest spiritual singers, Anuradha Paudwal, who has many awards over the years to her name, and the sound production, arrangements, and instrumental playing are by Craig Pruess, with Indian bamboo flute (bansuri) performed by Pt. Ronu Majumdar.
