This meditation is based on the powerful Sanskrit mantra "Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu"—may all beings everywhere be peaceful and happy. Of all the mantras that exist, this is considered to be one of the most important. When we chant or listen to the words, we create positive vibrations in ourselves and in the atmosphere. This practice begins with an 8:00 introduction, followed by the meditation. You can also find the music track by itself under Carrie's profile: Lokah (Peace on Earth).

My name is Kari Grossman,

And I'm so happy to be here to share another mantra practice with you.

If you're unfamiliar with mantras,

Essentially they're sacred sound formulas that can help to awaken the love within us.

They're like a sonic technology that takes us beyond our mind into the depths of our heart.

Today,

I'd like to share a powerful Sanskrit mantra with you,

Known as Loka.

The words to this mantra are Loka Samasta Sukhino Pavantu,

Which means,

May all beings everywhere be peaceful and happy.

Of all the mantras that exist,

This is one of the most important.

It helps us cultivate compassion and expand our vision beyond the confines of our small self.

It transforms our personal prayers into planetary prayers.

And I can't imagine anything more necessary in these times.

Anyone who reads the news or simply looks around can't help but feel deeply sad and concerned about the troubling issues we're facing as a planet.

Natural disasters,

Global warming,

Poverty,

Injustice of all kinds.

We witness and hear about these things constantly.

So much so that at times we may even become numb to the negativity or fall prey to overwhelm and despair.

But I think one of the benefits of the incredible pressure and tension that so many of us feel in these times is that it inspires us to find a deeper fulfillment.

And it's that inspiration and that longing that drives us to amazing platforms like Insight Timer,

Where we can connect with like-minded people from all over the world who share our desire to transform consciousness and awaken.

Despite our different nationalities,

Races,

Ages,

And orientations,

Our common aspirations unite us.

And through the wonder of technology,

We can join our minds and hearts to send waves of goodness into the world.

That's where Loka comes into play.

When we sing or listen to this mantra,

We create positive vibrations in ourselves and purify the atmosphere.

This is why so many saints and sages have advised people to chant this mantra during difficult times.

As we enter the sound current of this mantra that's been chanted for centuries to bring harmony and peace to the world,

We amplify that intention.

And that has benefits far beyond what our mind can comprehend.

While it may be a cliché that peace begins within,

All spiritual traditions tell us this is true.

When we cultivate compassion and joy,

That light spills out of us and affects the world.

That's why when you see great souls like the Dalai Lama or Amma or any of the amazing beings who have walked on the earth,

They laugh so much.

They have this incredible infectious joy about them.

Even though their task is to help alleviate the suffering of all beings,

They come from love.

They come from joy.

And that joy helps people.

One of the things that I've always found inspiring is Tibetan Buddhist iconography of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.

When you see these images,

The Buddhas look like they're in bliss.

They don't look haggard,

Exhausted and sad.

Their bliss is actually their medicine for the world.

It's a nectar that radiates from them in the form of compassion.

I really find this inspiring.

If you resonate with this mantra,

You might try chanting it every day.

Even if you just repeat it three times at the end of your meditation or before bed.

I find it especially helpful when I get lost in a loop of self-centered thoughts.

It reminds me that there are so many beings who need love,

Understanding and care in this world.

And it helps me feel less alone.

The truth is when we wish for the happiness of all,

We receive innumerable benefits because we're not isolated islands.

Even though our eyes may tell us otherwise.

Mystic wisdom and quantum science confirm that everything is interconnected.

We're all woven together in the radiant web of life.

That means our peace is everyone's peace.

And everyone's peace is ours.

So if you find yourself feeling helpless or overwhelmed or unsure about what to do about the suffering in the world,

This is a good mantra to turn to.

So let's begin now.

Find a comfortable position and allow yourself to be fully here in the present moment.

As the mantra begins,

You can imagine a stream of love flowing from your heart to all of creation.

Or send the prayer to anyone who's suffering,

Including the earth.

Neuroscience has shown that when we visualize something,

Our brain's visual cortex responds as if it's actually happening.

This means that when we focus on positive images,

We reduce stress,

Boost our immune system,

And rejuvenate our entire being.

And when our images and intentions are coupled with the pure energy of mantra,

Their power is amplified.

So for today's practice,

Instead of just singing for yourself,

Sing for the world.

Sing for nature.

Sing for your ancestors and for future generations.

Sing for forgiveness and liberation.

Sing for the oceans,

The rivers and the trees.

Sing for all beings everywhere.

Just make sure that when you pray for peace,

You don't forget to include yourself.

I love you.

I love you.

I love you.

I love you.

I love you.

I love you.

I love you.

I love you.

I love you.

So as you take in the words of this mantra,

Feel the energy and the intention of the prayer.

May all beings everywhere be peaceful and happy.

Allow yourself to feel a vibration of peace deep in your being using the power of your imagination.

Think of something that makes you happy.

Something that brings you peace.

It may be someone that you love or a place on the earth that you feel really content.

Or an experience that you had that filled you with joy.

Bring this image to mind and let the beauty fill every cell of your being.

And as you feel this peace,

Remember that your visual cortex experiences it as if it's really happening.

So let that peace overflow from within you and imagine it spreading in all directions throughout the world.

Like a light that permeates the mountains and the rivers and the oceans and the lakes and the streams.

On all the trees,

On the soil and the sky,

On all the animals and plants.

And imagine this light illuminating every being on the earth.

Now you can imagine a specific place on the planet where you'd like to direct this mantra.

It could be a place that is suffering from war or a natural disaster.

Or a place that's had environmental devastation or famine.

Or maybe you'd like to send it to a national forest or to the coral reefs.

Wherever your mind is drawn,

Imagine that the sound vibrations of the mantra and the love in your heart are infusing this place that is hurting.

Bringing peace,

Bringing healing and blessing the whole creation.
