The Mysteries Of Mantra

Por Wendy Buttery

Comece o Dia 1
O que você irá aprender
We will go through some of the most used mantras used in daily practices in the Hindu religion but also with yoga. Each class will explain the mantra's interpretation, meaning, and use. We will go through a call-and-response practice and then chant together. These mantras are the most simple and accessible mantras of what can sometimes be a complex subject. I hope that by getting used to the chants you will find how comforting and energizing they can be.

After spending time learning and teaching in India, she soon realized that the power of a yoga practice is not just in performing physical shapes, but in tapping into many of the energetic and philosophical aspects of the practice.

The Gayatri Mantra
The Gayatri Mantra is is one of the oldest mantras recorded in the vedas in sanskrit 2500-3500 years ago. This mantra is chanted for the attainment of Universal Consciousness and for the awakening of intuitive powers. It is most often recited at sunrise and sunset and is believed to bestow wisdom and enlightenment, through the vehicle of the Sun, who represents the source and inspiration of the universe. It is believed that by chanting this mantra you will achieve success and happiness in life. Om Bhur Bhuva Svah. Tat Savitur Varenyam. Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi. Dhiyo Yo Nah Pracodayat. Let us meditate on the splendour of the eternal Om. The creative principle of light manifested through the sun. Bestowing wisdom, bliss and immortality. May it lead us to enlightenment and energise our consciousness

The Prayer For Enlightenment
The basis of this mantra is to ascend from untruth to truth. Truth as the vedanta explains should be the same in the past, the present, and the future. It means that the reality around us has to be looked at from a much more holistic view. Darkness and light are 2 sides of the same coin as is death and immortality and consciousness and ignorance. You can use this mantra to find calm in chaos and find peace of mind if you feel restless, lonely, or depressed. Om asato ma sad gumaya. Tamoso ma jyotir gumaya. Mrityor ma amratam gumaya. Om shanti shanti shantihi Lead us from darkness to light. From ignorance to truth. And from death to eternity. Let peace prevail everywhere.

The Ganapati Mantra
This mantra is to evoke the god Ganesha to help you in your daily life. Ganesha is said to be the ruler of the root chakra that forms the base for all chakras. Any blockages of this chakra will disturb stability in life and can bring about brain fog, confusion, and anxiety. Chanting this mantra helps us align our root chakra and promotes overall well-being and success. This mantra is often used as "the remover of obstacles" to bring about positive results inspiring successful goals and outcomes. Om Gum Ganapatayei Namaha. Om Gum Guh-nuh-put-tuh-yei Nahm-ah-ha). “Om and salutations to the remover of obstacles for which Gum is the seed”. Ganesh is the remover of obstacles.

TEJASVINAVADITAMASTU. MA VIDVISHAVAHAI. OM SHANTI SHANTI SHANTI. Together maybe be protected. Together may we be nourished. Together may we work with great energy. May our journey together be brilliant and effective. May there be no bad feelings between us Peace, peace, peace

Peace Mantra 2 (Sarvesham Svastir Bhavatu)
An invocation for harmony and blessings to all of creation. This is a peace mantra and an invocation for harmony and blessings of all creation. A peace mantra is often recited after or before any Hindu ceremony. Shanti symbolizes peace of mind, body, and soul and is believed to bring individual, collective, and universal peace. These verses are chanted to relieve a frustrated mind and open the heart to compassion. Om Sarvesham svastir bhavatu. Sarvesham shantir bhavatu. Sarvesham purnam bhavatu. Sarvesham mangalam bhavatu. May happiness prevail on all. May peace prevail on all. May perfection prevail on all. May auspiciousness prevail on all. May peace prevail everywhere.

So Hum
SO HUM So = I am Hum = That. So hum translates to “I am that” and “That” refers to all of creation. Soooo is the sound of inhalation and is remembered in the mind along with that inhalation. Hummmm is the sound of exhalation and is remembered in the mind along with that. As we meditate on this we realise that we are all one, we have come from one infinite source and a part of that infinite source is present in all of us. We are all connected. You are the same as I am. It is thought that SO HUM is carried with each breath. As we inhale the breath whispers “So”, as we exhale the breath whispers “Hum”.

This course is magical. It’s my favorite course on the app so far. After chanting mantra, I can immediately feel calmer, more focused and grounded. I love the sound and rhythm as well. I come back to the course to replay and try to remember all the mantra. Love it. Thank you for the work and sharing your work here. It helped me.

Enjoyed chanting the mantras. I knew some from other courses but had never heard the second peace mantra before and really felt peace after class. Will do that one again
