Motherhood—whether experienced, witnessed, longed for, or survived—leaves a mark. In this course, we’ll explore that imprint through the lens of iconic screen mothers, from the sparkling chaos of Linda Belcher to the gothic reverence of Morticia Addams. These fictional women aren’t flawless—they’re full. Full of humor, fear, grace, contradiction, and love. Through their stories, and your own, we’ll reflect on the many ways care shows up: loud, quiet, awkward, devoted, anxious, elegant. This is a space for you to explore your own story of caregiving, identity, and emotional inheritance—no matter what your version of “mother” looks like.
By the end of this course, you will:
• Reflect on five diverse maternal archetypes drawn from film and television.
• Journal honestly about your own experience with caregiving, identity, and emotional presence.
• Unpack internalized beliefs about what “good” mothering looks and feels like.
• Identify which parts of yourself have been silenced, hidden, or misunderstood in caregiving roles.
• Use breathwork to ground yourself in the present moment and regulate emotional responses during reflection.
Students Can Expect Five Themed Lessons, each built around a unique TV or film mom: Linda Belcher, Mrs. Bennet, Caroline Ingalls, Clair Huxtable, and Morticia Addams.
Each lesson includes:
• A warm welcome and themed reflection
• A narrative or character-based teaching moment
• Emotional acknowledgment around a common caregiving wound
• A short, gentle breath practice
• A journaling prompt and 5 minutes of ambient journaling time
• A closing integration paragraph to wrap the day’s insight
You’ll also encounter unexpected softness, surprising laughter, and the comfort of realizing you’re not alone in your contradictions.
Motherhood is often reduced to ideals—selfless, calm, ever-capable. But real mothering, in all its forms, is messy, creative, flawed, and fiercely human. By journaling with these fictional mothers, you’ll meet the parts of yourself that are still learning how to show up, how to let go, how to lead, and how to love—on your own terms. Whether you’re a mother, daughter, caregiver, or someone simply navigating what it means to care, this course will offer reflection, relief, and room to be real.
Kathryn Vandertulip is an educator, performer, and Reiki practitioner with nearly two decades of experience guiding others into deeper relationship with their voice—whether sung, spoken, or written. Holding a Doctorate in Vocal Performance and a long-standing curiosity about the connection between breath, energy, and expression, her work blends the technical with the intuitive. This course emerged from her own struggles with stillness and journaling—not from expertise, but from a desire to listen more gently. Through body-led awareness and a soft, reflective approach, she invites others to reconnect with the parts of themselves that often go unheard....

Journaling With Mrs. Bennet: Loud Love In A Societal Storm

Journaling With Claire Huxtable: The Power Of Poised Authority
Claire Huxtable, the unshakable mother from The Cosby Show, raised five kids while practicing law—and she never lost her edge. She didn't yell to be heard. She didn’t apologize for her boundaries. She led her home with clarity, warmth, and style. Together we’ll breathe, ground, and journal with the part of us that knows how to lead with presence, not performance.
Prompt: What kind of leadership does my motherhood model?

Journaling With Morticia Addams: The Grace To Let Them Be Strange
We close the Motherhood series with Morticia Addams, the velvet-voiced mother from The Addams Family, never tried to “normalize” her children—she celebrated them. She didn’t flinch at their quirks or quiet their passions. She loved them without fear. If you’ve ever parented a child who felt “outside the box,” or grown up feeling like you were, this session is a soft sanctuary. We’ll explore what it means to let go of conformity and parent with curiosity instead of correction. Strange isn’t dangerous—it’s design.
Prompt: What part of my child—or myself—have I been afraid to embrace?

This is a brilliant course! It helped me notice parts of myself that I often repress and discourage in my child and myself. I loved the reflections, writing, and metaphor. I'm leaving the course bold and empowered as a mom! Thank you 🙏
