We can tell by the fact that we get tired or feel drained after interacting with certain people, having particular conversations, or participating in certain activities.

If you have been in the habit of people pleasing, then there will have been a tendency to focus more on others than on yourself. In a way, we leave ourselves behind to go and attend to others. This isn’t even a selfless act; it is an action we take so that we can acquire a sense of safety within ourselves. We feel as though we need to control the happiness of those around us so that we can feel at peace.

Overnight transformations are very appealing. We are all accustomed now to witnessing stories of change that happened instantaneously. Going from self-abandonment to self-love as quickly as possible might seem alluring. The truth is that the majority of us will need to create a slow and sustainable route to transformation that is more grounded and gentle.
