Discovering Me

This is a poem about loss and gain. It describes how in walking the uncomfortable path through grief and pain of loss we arrive at a new place which has its own riches we hadn't known about and in fact we come to discover something very beautiful.

Transcript

When all the lovely things have gone,

What are we left with?

When we have lost loved ones,

Family,

Money,

Success.

When we have lost hope,

Dreams.

When we've lost love,

Youth,

Drive and meaning.

What is there left?

I thought nothing,

But in the emptiness,

The pain,

Grief of loss.

I found me,

A very alive presence of me I had not met before.

It felt deep and rich and stable,

More secure than the me I knew before.

It was quite scary,

The imminence and presence of me.

It was so in my face I couldn't ignore,

Like I'd been in a haze all my life before.

And there it sat,

Just being,

Huge,

Alive,

Just pure presence.

Like a queen on a throne,

Sat in my body.

Yes,

Quite scary,

Magnificent.

Stripped of all the trappings of striving,

I finally met myself.
