Australian voiceover artist Ben Sorensen reads Aesop's Fable, The Cock & the Pearl, to the tranquil sounds of nature. Aesop was a Greek fabulist and storyteller credited with a number of fables now collectively known as Aesop's Fables. Although his existence remains unclear and no writings by him survive, numerous tales credited to him were gathered across the centuries. Use this story as an escape from your busy world, to relax, and reset.

Transcript

I'm Ben Sorensen and it's time to switch off from the world if even for a moment to create a safe space to enjoy one of Aesop's fables.

The cock and the pearl.

A cock was once strutting up and down the farmyard among the hens when suddenly he aspired something shining amid the straw.

Ho ho,

Quoteth he,

That's for me.

And soon rooted it out from beneath the straw.

What did it turn out to be but a pearl that by some chance had been lost in the yard.

You may be a treasure,

Quoth master cock,

To men that prize you but for me I would rather have a single barley corn than a peck of pearls.

Precious things are for those that can prize them.

Time out to recharge is time well spent.

Be consciously kind to yourself and others.
