Hi!
Welcome back to another episode of the April Sings a Lot podcast.
This is a summer singing experiment because of the COVID craziness.
I need something to keep me sane.
So I have started this singing for sanity.
Maybe that's that's what I'll call it.
I'm calling this officially the April Sings a Lot podcast because maybe it'll go past this summer and then maybe I won't be singing for my sanity.
But anyway for now we're going to be focusing on hymns because as we sort of shut down our lives over the last few months because of the coronavirus I really found myself returning to the basics.
Like this is not a time to try a new flavor of ice cream.
I got enough uncertainty in my life right?
So I'm going straight for the Ben & Jerry's fish food because that's my favorite.
You know what I mean right?
So television shows I find myself re-watching friends episodes because that's what I find comforting.
For reading I find myself re-reading the Harry Potter series because I know I like that and I know what's gonna happen and it's just comforting.
And so when it comes to singing I have found myself returning to the hymns that I grew up singing because of my career as a music director I have collected a lot of hymnals over the years and I've just been going through them and rediscovering old favorites and just really connecting with the messages in those hymns in a whole new way.
This podcast is going to be sharing story and song and inviting you to sing along and hopefully it will bring hope and healing during this uncertain time.
Make me a channel of blessing.
It's like a great prayer of make me a channel of blessing today.
Just use my life for good today.
And who doesn't need to hear that right?
I found myself singing that today in traffic.
I was on my way to an appointment,
I was running late and then everything came to a screeching halt and I started to like,
You know,
Anxiety started to rise.
What if I'm late?
What if they don't take me?
Of course I was wearing a face mask and so that started to get uncomfortable and I was clenching my jaw and so then my jaw hurt and it was just like a whole snowball thing.
I started singing.
Make me a channel of blessing today.
Make me a channel of blessing I pray.
My life possessing my service blessing.
Make me a channel of blessing today.
Let's sing that together right now.
Make me a channel of blessing today.
Make me a channel of blessing I pray.
My life possessing my service blessing.
Make me a channel of blessing today.
Wow.
Sometimes just the simplest phrases are what we need to center us and get us through a difficult situation or just a difficult few moments.
Thank you for listening.
Thank you for singing.
And if you have any advice or any songs requests,
I'm open.
Like I said,
This summer is a singing experiment and I'd love to bring you along for not just the ride,
But if you want to come up in the passenger seat and participate as well,
I would love that.
