My Instrument Dream Meditation.
Let's begin by taking a moment to become comfortable by adjusting your posture.
If you are sitting in a chair,
You may like to place your feet firmly on the floor,
Just a little apart.
Check your back is supported by the back of the chair.
And ensure your head is neither too far forward or backwards.
Imagine you have an upright and open posture.
If lying down,
Make sure your body is comfortable,
Symmetrical and feels fully supported by the surface beneath you.
Allow yourself to settle.
And affirm this is a time to focus on you and your instrument dream.
To the count of four.
Take some slow,
Deep breaths.
The reach down to your belly.
Take your time,
As you notice the feeling of slowing down.
And air filling your lungs.
Imagine you are grounding yourself with your breath.
Become aware of any tension.
Or tightness you can feel.
And imagine breathing into those tense spaces.
And to the count of five.
Let that tension go.
With the next out-breath.
Continue to allow your body to relax and rest.
And feel your chest rising with the in-breath.
And falling with the out-breath.
In this resting state.
Imagine yourself playing your chosen instrument.
Easily and effortlessly.
Fill in as many details as you can.
Using all your senses.
Take your time now.
What does your instrument look like?
Sound like?
Feel like to play.
What emotions are bubbling up?
Imagine playing your instrument with delight.
Visualise yourself playing with complete ease.
In a place or setting you love.
Enjoying this process.
Continue to breathe deeply.
And listen for a moment as you continue to imagine playing.
And hearing the sound of your chosen instrument.
If your mind narrows onto negative voices or resistance.
Open your awareness.
And take a deep breath in.
Feel your fate on the ground.
And let go of any tension or negativity.
With the next out-breath.
Feel a wave of relaxation.
And know this instrument will give you much joy.
Now imagine bringing one hand up to your heart.
Feel your chest rising and falling.
As you breathe deeply.
Imagining your breath going into your heart space.
From this place of hand and heart connection.
Imagine a warm,
Healing light flow from this heart area.
To include your whole body and your instrument.
You may also like to imagine people listening.
Smiling.
And enjoying your music.
Breathe in and feel connection.
Warmth,
Possibility.
And the spark of the creative spirit.
And breathe out anything that will hold you back from living your musical life.
Now pause for a moment in this space.
And enjoy these images.
Now gradually bring your awareness back to the room.
By once again becoming aware of your breathing.
Begin to wiggle your fingers and your toes.
Become aware of the sounds in the room.
And then outside the room.
And when you are ready.
Open your eyes.
And know you can repeat this meditation anytime you need to focus and remember.
You are a musician.
