Hello,
My name is Pedro Avila and in this video I want to talk to you about the truth between flexibility and mobility.
A lot of people get these two confused but it's very simple and I want to keep this video very short.
Flexibility is how much your muscle can stretch.
Make sense?
If,
Let me lie down.
All right,
Flexibility is me.
Pulling my leg out here.
Make sense?
I can feel the stretch quite a bit,
But I can pull.
Can I maintain this position?
No,
It's gonna come back.
This is me.
Being flexible.
Okay,
Mobility is.
Flexibility plus strength combined.
Mobility in this case would be me being able to move my leg out here without having me to pull.
Makes sense?
So Another good example,
Let's get into a 90-90 position.
I want to increase the rotation of my hip.
Okay.
Now,
If I lift my ankle like this,
See how far it goes.
Yeah.
I am twisting.
I'm building flexibility here.
Can I hold here?
No,
It comes down.
This is because I've got flexibility,
But I don't have mobility.
What is my mobility in this case?
Halfway.
Mobility is my ability to move through that range with my own strength.
Make sense?
So this is my mobility.
This is my flexibility.
Make sense?
This is the main difference between mobility and flexibility.
Both are very important.
But when you have flexibility and strength you have mobility too.
Or any sharp pain,
That's a signal to stop,
That's your depth,
That's how far you can go.
Make sense?
Also,
If you're trying to build range of motion,
Don't go too heavy.
Start with your body weight and then increase your weight as you progress,
Slow and controlled.
The more you control,
The better you get,
The stronger you get.
So,
Flexibility,
Stretches,
Do them,
They are amazing,
You're gonna feel relief.
But mobility,
That's where the money lives,
Yeah?
Mobility equals longevity.
Practice both.
If you have any questions,
Let me know.
