So I realized something about manifestation that I don't think gets talked about enough.
We're often told that when you manifest something,
We should imagine that we already have it.
We visualize the best possible outcome and we try to feel the exact emotion we believe we would experience if it became real.
Even though it hasn't even appeared in our tangible life yet.
But that made me wonder.
Are you actually able to receive what you're manifesting?
See,
We're going to explore the difference between visualizing what you want and developing the capacity to receive it.
And at the end,
I'll also share a simple practice you can use when you notice yourself minimizing or bypassing something good.
And the reason I started thinking about this is that two separate ideas connected in my mind.
Over the weekend,
I had a conversation about receiving abundance,
About the difference between experiencing something good for a moment and fully allowing yourself to embrace it.
You see,
Later I watched a video about manifestation and timelines.
It focused on feeling as though you had already received what you wanted.
The video didn't talk about receiving it in the same way.
But my mind connected the two.
And in that moment,
I was like,
Wait,
Something is connecting here.
If manifestation asks us to create the feeling of receiving,
Shouldn't we also become aware of whether we're capable of accepting and holding that feeling when it actually appears?
Not just imagining it.
Not just feeling it for a few minutes during meditation.
But fully accepting the emotion,
Allowing your body to express it and experience it without immediately making it smaller.
When I say holding onto that feeling,
I don't mean clinging to an emotion or forcing it to last forever.
I mean allowing yourself to experience it before bypassing it.
Fully receiving may look like accepting the joy,
Naming the emotion,
And understanding why the moment matters,
And also allowing your body to express what you feel.
Now,
Not receiving might look like downplaying it,
Being unable to name it,
Immediately moving forward,
Or distracting yourself with something else before you've truly experienced the moment.
And I think visualization may connect with this psychologically as well.
I'm not saying this is a proven explanation of exactly how manifestation works.
This is just a connection my mind makes.
You see,
When you repeatedly visualize the best possible outcome,
You're giving yourself an opportunity to become familiar with the emotion connected to it.
The experience may begin to feel like it.
I can't believe this is happening.
And a more grounded,
More like,
This is me.
I'm allowed to experience this.
That doesn't mean visualization is identical to living it through the real event.
And it doesn't guarantee that receiving will suddenly become easy.
But I wonder whether it can help the experience feel more recognizable when an opportunity,
Gift,
Or moment of recognition appears in real life.
And that brought me to another question.
Why might receiving feel foreign in the first place?
I think some of it comes from how we were raised and whether our natural strengths were recognized.
If the things we appreciated about ourselves weren't acknowledged or valued,
Hearing someone else praise those qualities may feel unfamiliar.
We may struggle to believe that their recognition is true.
Not because we don't want it,
But because we fully haven't experienced or embodied that kind of acceptance.
One place I think this can show up is in how many of us learn to understand our value through work.
A job is a job.
You do what you're supposed to do.
You complete your part of the assembly line.
There may be little room to recognize the individual skill,
Wisdom,
Or perspective you bring.
So when someone finally recognizes something unique in you,
It may not fit the identity you learn to carry.
And if being yourself previously led to rejection,
Downplaying recognition may begin to feel protective.
Because if we struggle to accept ourselves for who we are,
How are we supposed to trust acceptance when it comes from someone else?
And this stopped being an abstract idea when I noticed it happening within myself.
Someone recognized one of my strengths and I knew I was feeling something.
But I couldn't name it.
Someone close to me gave me space to stop and notice what was really happening.
And honestly,
My first answer was,
I don't know how I feel.
And instead of moving on,
I stayed with it.
Slowly I began to get closer to what I was actually experiencing.
What it showed me was how quickly I might normalize or normally downplay a positive emotion,
Make it feel ordinary and move on before I've allowed myself to receive it.
And then my mind connected that back to manifestation.
How can I imagine a future in which my strengths are recognized and valued if I'm unable to receive a smaller version of that recognition today?
Doesn't mean that manifestation failed.
It means that moment revealed another place where I can become more aware of myself.
And personally,
I'm grateful when a block reveals itself.
I believe that every block I work through leads me towards a more authentic version of myself.
Every high and every low can reveal something truer about who I am.
So if you notice that receiving feels difficult,
You don't have to treat that awareness as another reason to judge yourself.
Instead,
You can treat it as information that becomes transformation.
So what do you do when that awareness reveals a block?
For me,
It begins by creating enough space to experience what's happening instead of immediately bypassing it.
And that's where the receiving pause comes in.
So step one is to pause.
Before you explain the moment away,
Distract yourself or move into the next thing.
Give yourself some space.
Notice.
Recognize what is happening emotionally and physically.
You don't need to change it yet.
Name it.
Say what you feel,
And if you don't know,
Say that you don't know.
Say,
I know I feel something,
But I don't know what it is yet.
And that's an honest place to begin.
Allow.
Give the emotion time to become clearer without minimizing,
Correcting,
Or judging it.
5.
Receive.
Accept the praise,
Joy,
Opportunity,
Support,
Or recognition without immediately giving it away or explaining why it shouldn't matter.
And sixth,
Embody.
Allow your body to experience and express the emotion.
Maybe you smile,
Maybe you breathe more deeply,
Maybe you soften,
Maybe you feel grounded or proud.
You don't have to perform an emotion.
Let your body respond in whatever way feels honest.
So the next time you visualize the best possible outcome,
Don't only ask,
What am I manifesting?
You should also ask,
Am I willing to fully receive it?
And when a smaller piece of it appears in your real life.
Give yourself permission to recognize it.
Maybe manifestation isn't only about asking the universe to bring something to your door.
Maybe it's also about becoming the willing to open the door,
Let it in,
And experience what you asked for.
So my reflective question for you is,
If what you're manifesting arrived today,
Would you be able to fully receive it?
And what can you practice receiving right now?
So thank you for this time to reflect with me.
Once again,
My name is Josh and stay tuned for the next reflection.
