My name's Melissa,
And I specialize in teaching mindfulness in a practical,
Down-to-earth type of way.
There are a lot of misconceptions about what mindfulness is.
So today I want to talk about what mindfulness isn't and what mindfulness is.
First of all,
A lot of people think that mindfulness is about mind clearing or being blank.
And that's not the case at all.
What mindfulness is.
Is active awareness,
Being aware of what is in the current moment.
Without trying to change it.
Mindfulness is not about toxic positivity.
Mindfulness is about acceptance.
Meaning,
If you feel like this today,
That's okay.
Acknowledge it,
Feel it,
Don't resist it.
Mindfulness is not a religion.
It's not a cult.
Mindfulness is a skill,
A practice,
Something you learn and work on daily.
Mindfulness is not about reacting to something when it happens.
Instead,
It's that little pause where we respond rather than react.
And last but not least,
Mindfulness doesn't have to be woo-woo,
Although it can be,
But it also can be practical,
Useful,
Down-to-earth,
And available to all of us for everyday life.
