Find yourself a quiet,
Private place where you won't be disturbed.
Lie down and take up as much space as you want.
You were allowed that much already,
Let your eyes drift close.
And as you lay here,
Just breathe for a moment,
Feel the surface beneath you,
The weight of your body pressing into it,
The warmth of the room against your skin.
You are here,
In this body,
Right now,
Releasing whatever the day has been asking you to hold.
And again,
Breathe in,
And this time as you breathe out,
Feel your body begin to soften,
Your shoulders dropping,
Your jaw unclenching,
That space behind your eyes relaxing,
Your skin becoming more alive with each breath,
More present,
More.
There is a concept in non-dual philosophy that says the boundary between yourself and your experience is not real,
That the observer and the observed are the same thing,
That you are not a person lying in a room having sensations tonight,
You are the sensation.
There is nothing between you and what you feel tonight,
No distance,
No management,
No carefully maintained gap between who you present to the world and who actually exists underneath it.
Just this,
Just you,
Just your body,
Awake and waiting.
So bring your awareness now to your skin,
All of it,
The entire surface of you,
The places where fabric meets your body,
The places where the air meets your skin,
The soft places your body keeps mostly to itself,
The back of your neck,
The inside of your wrist,
The places that hold heat in a way most of the rest of your body doesn't.
Notice how alive your skin is already,
How it responds to the simple act of being noticed,
How it warms very slightly under your own attention.
Your body has been waiting for this.
Slowly to the chest,
And feel the warmth of your own touch,
The heartbeat beneath the feel the rise and fall of your breath,
Under watched.
In this moment there is no separation between them,
You are each and every breath something is waking up,
They're starting somewhere in the chest and moving slowly downward,
Like it's finding every space that has been left empty for too long.
You may feel your breath changing now,
Deeper in some moments,
Slower in others,
The body shifting,
Becoming more instinctive than thought.
This is yours,
Every sensation,
Every wave of heat,
Every moment completely with it.
There is nowhere else you need to be.
