Begin by lying down in a comfortable position.
Allow your legs to extend,
Arms resting gently by your sides,
Palms facing upward.
Take a moment to make any final adjustments,
Perhaps a blanket,
A cushion under the knees,
Or supporting the head.
Once you're settled,
Allow the eyes to softly close.
Feel the weight of your body being held by the ground beneath you,
Nothing to hold,
Nothing to do.
Take a slow breath in through the nose and a gentle breath out through the mouth.
Again,
Inhale and exhale.
Let the breath return to its natural rhythm.
Become aware of the quiet,
Steady flow of your breath,
Just observing without changing anything.
Now begin to notice the cyclical nature of your breath.
The inhale,
Rising,
The exhale,
Falling,
Like waves,
Like a rhythm that repeats itself effortlessly.
Bring to mind the cycle of the moon,
From new to full,
And back again.
Just as the moon moves through phases,
Your breath moves through its own cycle.
Inhale,
Expanding,
Growing,
Exhale,
Softening,
Releasing.
Imagine that with each breath,
You are gently attuning to this natural rhythm within and around you.
We'll now begin a slow rotation of awareness through the body.
As each part is named,
Simply bring your awareness there.
And imagine the soft,
Luminous light of the full moon gently shining on that part of your body.
No effort,
Just awareness.
Right side,
Bring awareness to the right hand,
Thumb,
Index finger,
Middle finger,
Ring finger,
Little finger,
Palm of the hand,
Back of the hand,
Wrist,
Forearm,
Elbow,
Upper arm,
Shoulder,
Armpit.
Right side of the chest,
Waist,
Hip,
Right thigh,
Knee,
Lower leg,
Ankle,
Heel,
Sole of the foot,
Top of the foot,
Big toe,
Second toe,
Third,
Fourth,
Little toe,
Pause,
Feel the whole right side bathed in soft moonlight.
Left side,
Bring awareness to the left hand,
Thumb,
Index finger,
Middle finger,
Ring finger,
Little finger,
Palm,
Back of the hand,
Wrist,
Forearm,
Elbow,
Upper arm,
Shoulder,
Armpit.
Left side of the chest,
Waist,
Hip,
Left thigh,
Knee,
Lower leg,
Ankle,
Heel,
Sole,
Top of the foot,
Big toe,
Second,
Third,
Fourth,
Little toe,
Pause,
Feel the whole left side illuminated.
Back body,
Bring awareness to the back of the head,
Neck,
Shoulders,
Shoulder blades,
Upper back,
Middle back,
Lower back,
Buttocks.
Feel the entire back body resting,
Supported,
Softly lit by moonlight.
Front body,
Bring awareness to the forehead,
Eyebrows,
Space between the brows,
Eyes,
Cheeks,
Nose,
Lips,
Chin,
Throat,
Chest,
Heart center,
Abdomen,
Navel,
Lower belly.
Feel the entire front body glowing gently.
Now sense the whole body together,
From head to toe,
Held in stillness.
Imagine your entire body bathed in the soft,
Cool light of the full moon.
Your breath continues its natural rhythm,
Rising and falling,
Like the waxing and waning of the moon,
Endless,
Cyclical,
Calm.
Rest here for a few moments,
Begin to deepen your breath slightly,
Feel the physical body once more,
The points of contact with the ground beneath you.
Gently invite small movements,
Wiggling the fingers,
The toes,
Perhaps rotating the wrists or ankles.
Take a deeper breath in,
And a full breath out.
If it feels right,
Stretch the arms overhead,
Lengthening through the body.
Slowly roll onto one side,
Pausing there for a moment.
And when you're ready,
Gently come up to a seated position.
Keep the eyes soft or closed.
Take a final moment to notice how you feel.
Calm,
Steady,
Connected.
And when you're ready,
Softly open the eyes.
