This practice hides inside an ordinary act.
Making ourselves something warm to drink.
So go ahead and put the kettle on.
Or warm what you have.
And while it heats Just stand there.
No phone,
No tidying.
Allow waiting to be the practice.
And when your cup is ready.
Hold it with both hands first.
Feel the heat arrive in your palms.
Before anything else happens.
Then take one sip.
The slowest sip you've taken all week.
Notice the warmth traveling.
Your lips,
Tongue,
Throat.
And then that faint bloom of heat in your chest.
The part many of us don't slow down enough to feel.
Just notice that warmth.
And take three more sips in this way.
Slowly noticing that warmth.
Between these sips,
Rest the cup and feel your hands.
The fog doesn't need to lift.
For this practice to count.
You made something warm.
And you let yourself receive it.
One sip at a time.
On purpose.
That's contact.
