Start your day out with a short reflection on how meaningful this day is. Remind yourself of what you are grateful for today and set your intentions to take into this one precious day what is most important. These daily reflections are the property of John Bruna's Mindfulness in Recovery (MIR) program and are recorded here with permission.

As the bell sound fades away,

Start to sink into your seat and feel the surface below you.

Sense your body,

Your face,

Your shoulders and arms.

Begin to experience your breath.

Your breath coming and going.

For these precious moments,

Let go of whatever you're thinking about and just be.

There is no place to go.

There is no place to be.

There's nothing to do.

I invite you to just relax.

As we begin this day,

Begin to think of the things you want to bring into it.

I invite you to consider that you have a life of recovery today,

Filled with support and opportunities.

Every day in recovery is a new opportunity and a fresh start,

If you choose to take advantage of it.

I'd like to invite you to bring to mind that you are not the center of the universe,

But you are indeed a valuable part of it.

The events that happen in your life,

Whether you label them good or bad,

Are all opportunities to grow,

Learn and make your life more meaningful.

I invite you to take a few moments to bring to mind something or someone you're grateful for.

This could be a friend,

A relative,

An event or even a pet.

It is important that it is relevant and personal to you in this moment.

Start to feel the gratitude that you have for this person or thing.

I invite you to sense deeply how that feels.

Let the warmth of your heart fill your chest and dissolve into the rest of your body.

Feel the gratitude.

Now,

I invite you to take some time to reflect on the person you want to be.

What are the qualities and values that you want to bring into this day?

This day that will never come again.

This one precious day.

Finally,

I invite you to set your intention to not waste this day and to live it with attention and intention,

Cultivating the qualities that you find meaningful.

Remember,

The only thing that separates the person you are from the person you want to be are the actions you take today.

If you choose,

Make a clear and firm commitment to your recovery today.
