Welcome.
I'm very glad you chose to spend this time with me if you're here today.
It's very likely because someone you loved is no longer beside you Perhaps it was your dog.
Your beloved cat Her bird.
Whose songs once filled your mornings.
A horse.
Or a turtle.
Or another companion.
Quietly became part of your life in ways only you truly understand.
Whatever kind of animal they were.
They mattered.
And because they mattered.
Their absence matters too.
So,
Before we begin our meditation,
I want you to know something.
Nothing that you feel right now is wrong.
Not the sadness.
Not the tears.
Not the emptiness.
Not the moments when you suddenly remember them.
And feel your heart sink all over again.
Grief is never measured by the size of the one we've lost.
It's measured by the love that existed between two hearts.
And loves.
Does not care about species.
Love only knows connection.
So today.
There's nothing you need to prove.
Nothing you need to explain.
You don't have to convince anyone that your grief is real.
You don't have to defend.
Why are you still hurting?
You don't have to apologize for loving so deeply.
This time.
Belongs entirely to you.
I want you to find a comfortable position Allow your hands to rest naturally.
Let your shoulders soften just a little.
Not because you must relax.
But because for these next few minutes you don't have to carry quite as much.
Take one slow breath.
Not the perfect one.
Just in an honest way.
Inhale slowly.
And as you exhale.
Allow yourself to arrive here.
Another gentle breath.
Nothing forced.
Nothing complicated.
Simply letting the body remember.
That for this moment.
It is safe to pause.
Losing the beloved animal creates a very particular kind of silence.
The silence of a food bowl that stays full.
The silence of footsteps that never come running.
The silence of a favorite sleeping place that remains untouched.
The silence of reaching automatically before remembering.
Maybe you still expect to hear the familiar sound of paws on the floor.
Maybe still glance toward the door when you come home.
Maybe.
For just a fraction of a second each morning.
Your mind forgets.
And that it remembers.
Again.
A tiny moment can hurt every single time.
It isn't because you're refusing to accept reality.
It's because love creates habits.
Thousands of tiny habits.
Habits so ordinary.
That we rarely notice them.
Until.
.
.
They suddenly have nowhere to go.
You may still speak their name without thinking.
You may still catch yourself buying their favorite treats.
You may still look toward their favorite chair not because you're confused.
Because your heart learned the rhythm.
Over time.
And rhythms.
Don't disappear overnight.
Sometimes.
People around us don't understand this.
They say things they believe are comforting.
You can always get another pet.
They had a good life.
They're no longer suffering.
Every one of those things may even be true.
But truth isn't always what the grieving heart needs first.
Before the heart can hear hope.
It first needs to feel understood.
Because no other animal.
No matter how wonderful.
Here's the taste one.
No one else has the same eyes.
The same little habits,
The same greeting,
The same personality.
The same quiet conversations without words.
They were wonderfully.
And completely.
Themselves.
And that uniqueness is exactly what you miss.
Perhaps.
There are moments when you wonder whether you're grieving too much.
Whether five months is too long.
For six months.
For a year.
For more.
There is no calendar that love obeys.
There is no correct number of tears.
Some people cry every day.
Some people stop crying for weeks.
And then one photograph.
One familiar sound.
One forgotten toy.
Opens everything again.
That isn't failure.
That is love finding another doorway.
Grief rarely walks in a straight line.
It moves like waves.
Some are gentle Some arrive without warning.
Sometimes you believe you're finally feeling stronger.
And then something small.
So very small.
Brings everything back.
This doesn't mean you're moving backward.
It simply means that a love is still alive inside you.
Perhaps.
There are also questions.
Could I have done more?
Did I wait too long?
Did I decide too soon?
Did they really know how much I loved them?
These questions visit so many grieving hearts.
They often come late at night.
Were in quiet moments.
And because we cannot ask for answers.
Our minds begin trying to create them.
Again.
And again.
We'll return to those questions later.
Not to force them away.
But to look at them.
With gentleness instead of fear.
For now.
Simply notice that they exist.
Without trying to solve them.
Without judging yourself for having them.
Like clouds crossing a white sky.
See you.
Acknowledged.
And love.
There is something else that often surprises people after losing a beloved companion.
It isn't only the sadness.
It's the loneliness.
But because the house is empty.
But because someone who silently shared your ordinary days is no longer there.
Someone who asks for nothing more than your presence.
Someone who sat with you through difficult days.
Without ever asking you to explain yourself.
Animals.
Have a beautiful way of making us feel accepted.
Not because of what we achieve.
Not because of how successful we are.
Not because of our appearance.
They simply love us.
As we are.
And when that steady presence disappears,
We don't only lose an animal.
We lose a quiet witness to our lives.
Someone who knew our routines.
Our moods.
Our laughter.
Our tears.
Someone who shared countless ordinary moments.
That only the two of you ever experienced.
Those moments matter.
Far more than you may realize.
And that is why your heart still feels their absence.
Not because something is wrong with you.
But because something beautiful was real.
For the next little while.
You don't have to make the grief disappear.
You don't have to become stronger.
You don't even have to feel better.
All you need to do.
Is allow yourself to be here.
Exactly as you are.
With everything your heart is carrying.
With the quiet understand.
That you no longer have to carry it completely alone as you continue breathing naturally.
Without trying to change anything.
Allow yourself to imagine a place where you always felt peaceful with your companion.
It doesn't have to be perfect.
It only has to be familiar.
Perhaps it's your living room.
The Garden.
Her favorite walking path.
A quiet corner of your home.
A place where nothing extraordinary happened.
Holy Life.
The beautiful.
Ordinary.
Everyday moments that quietly become the memories we treasure most.
Take a little time here.
Notice the lights.
The sounds.
The feeling of the air.
Not because every detail matters.
But because this place belongs to both of you.
It was part of your shared story.
And down.
If it feels comfortable.
Allow one memory to come forward.
Don't search for the biggest one.
Or the last one.
Simply let your heart choose.
Perhaps they were sleeping peacefully.
Perhaps they greeted you after a long day.
Perhaps they looked into your eyes with complete trust.
Perhaps they were doing something that always made you smile.
Whatever memory comes.
Allow it to arise naturally.
Notice something beautiful.
The memory carries two feelings at once.
There is sadness.
And there is love.
The sadness doesn't erase the love.
And the love.
Doesn't erase the sadness.
For a while.
They simply exist together.
Side by side Many people believe grief is the opposite of love.
But it isn't.
Is what love feels like.
When it no longer has a place to land.
The love is still here.
It simply has nowhere to place today's greeting.
Today's touch.
Today's routine.
Today's quiet conversation.
And so it circles inside your heart.
Looking for the one it misses.
That isn't something broken.
It's something profoundly human.
Perhaps you've smiled unexpectedly.
Remembering something trying to delete it.
Only to begin crying seconds later.
The joy and grief of to arrive together One doesn't cancel the other.
In fact.
They often walk hand in hand.
Because every beautiful memory reminds us of what we had.
And what we had.
Was it real?
As you sit with these memories.
See if you can gently notice something else Your companion never measured your worth.
They never asked whether you earned enough.
Whether you were successful enough.
Whether your house is perfect.
Whether your appearance was flawless.
They didn't need impressive words.
Or perfect days.
They simply knew you.
And they chose you.
Every single day.
Think of that for a moment.
Out of all the people in the world.
They found safety with you.
Comfort.
With you.
Home.
With you.
You became the place where they relaxed.
Where they slept peacefully.
Where they felt protected.
You were never perfect.
None of us are.
But to them.
You were in them.
More.
Than enough.
Sometimes grief quietly whispers another story.
It says,
He failed.
You should have known this sooner.
You should have chosen differently.
You should have had one more treatment.
One more day.
One more chance.
If those thoughts have visited you.
You are far from alone.
Almost every greeting heart knows them.
Because when love loses someone precious,
The mind searches desperately for a way to rewrite the ending.
If only.
Becomes one of the saddest phrases we know.
If only I had.
If only I hadn't.
If only.
I want you to take a slow breath in.
And as you breathe out.
There is no need to argue with those thoughts No need to force them away.
Simply ask them one simple question if someone I loved told me the same story.
Would I judge them this harshly?
Or would I see someone who loves deeply?
Who worry deeply.
Who tried again and again.
To do what seemed right with the knowledge they had at the time.
We are often so much kinder to strangers than we are to ourselves.
Yet your companion never asked you to be perfect.
Animals do not love perfection.
They love presents.
They love familiar voices.
Gentle hands.
Shared routines.
Moments together.
And if they could speak in the language of human hearts.
Perhaps they would never count your mistakes the way you do.
Perhaps they would remember something entirely different.
The warmth of your lap.
The meals you prepared.
The games you played.
The nights you stayed close when they were frightened.
The countless ordinary acts of care that became their entire world.
There is something remarkably quiet about love it rarely announces itself.
It leaves a repetition.
Filling the water bowl.
Opening the door.
Brushing soft fur.
Cleaning little messes without complaint.
Changing plans because they needed you.
Sitting beside them during illness.
Walking in the middle of the night.
Whispering.
It's okay.
Those moments may have seemed ordinary then,
But love almost always disguises itself as ordinary life.
Only afterwards.
Until we realize how sacred those ordinary moments truly were.
Your tears today.
Do not only speak of loss.
They also bear witness.
They quietly say.
This life mattered.
This friendship matters.
This love mattered.
Without grief,
Love would leave no echo.
And every tear.
However painful.
Is part of that echo.
You don't have to stop listening to them.
Not today.
Not tomorrow.
The purpose of this time together isn't to make your heart forget.
It is to help your heart carry love without feeling crushed by its weight.
That change is gentle.
Almost invisible.
It happens one breath.
And memory.
One kind thought towards yourself.
At the time.
Remain quietly in this peaceful place with your companion for a few moments longer.
No words are needed.
Nothing.
Needs to happen.
Simply rest together inside the memory.
Allowing your heart to remember.
Not only how the story ended.
But how beautifully it was lived.
As you remain here.
Held gently by your memories.
You may begin to notice something that grief often hides.
When someone we love dies.
Our minds naturally return to the final chapter.
The final goodbye.
Again and again.
The heart walks back to that place.
As though it is trying to understand what cannot be undone.
And without realizing it.
One painful moment begins to overshadow hundreds.
Or even thousands.
Of beautiful ones.
Perhaps.
This has happened to you.
Perhaps the final moment has become louder than all the years that came before it.
If so,
That isn't because your heart wants to suffer.
It's because the mind believes that if it studies enough,
It might somehow protect itself from ever feeling this pain again.
But love doesn't live only in endings.
Love lives in everything that came before.
Imagine opening a very large book.
A book filled.
With every ordinary day you shared.
Each page holds a memory.
Who walk.
And nap together.
Amia.
Quietly.
A funny habit that always made you laugh.
A moment.
When they comforted you without knowing they were doing so.
Page after page.
Year after year.
Don't know the suffering.
The final page exists.
Of course it does.
It's part of the story.
But it's only one page.
One page in a book filled with love.
Grief has a way of holding that final page directly in front of our eyes.
So close.
That we temporarily forget the hundreds behind it today.
Without forcing anything.
Simply allow the whole book to exist.
Not only it's empty.
But it's beautiful weather.
Its joyful beginning.
Its ordinary afternoons.
Its countless quiet moments.
The story deserves to be remembered in its fullness.
You may never stop wishing for one more day.
One more walk.
One more cuddle.
One more greeting at the door.
That wish is one of the purest expressions of love.
But known as something gentle.
If one more day had been given.
Would it ever have been enough?
Or would you simply have wished for one more after that?
And another.
And the nether.
Because love is never satisfied with goodbye.
Not because it's greedy.
Because it's alive.
There is a sentence that many grieving people quietly carry inside themselves I wasn't ready.
Perhaps.
.
.
You've said those words,
Perhaps only in your heart.
But there is something profoundly human about them.
The truth is.
We are almost never ready.
No amount of preparation teaches the heart how to let go of someone it still loves The calendar,
We know the date.
The veterinarian may know the prognosis.
The mind.
We understand what's coming.
But love always hopes for one more sunrise.
When we're very calm.
One more ordinary day.
That hope is not foolish.
It's simply what love does.
If guilt has been sitting beside your grace.
Perhaps you can imagine it now as a frightened traveler.
Not an enemy.
That's something to fight.
Just a part of you.
Trying desperately to make sense of unbearable loss.
You don't have to throw a cat away today.
You don't even have to stop believing every thought it brings.
Simply see it for what it is.
Your mind searching for certainty.
Where certainty no longer exists.
Now imagine your companion again.
Choose a time.
When they were simply themselves.
Healthy.
Playful.
Peaceful.
Watch them for a few moments.
Notice how completely they lived inside each moment Animals rarely carry yesterday into today.
They rarely rehearse tomorrow.
When they're happy.
They're completely happy.
When they rest,
They truly rest.
When they love.
They simply love.
No conditions.
No calculations.
No scorekeeping.
Perhaps that was one of the greatest gifts they ever gave you.
Not through words.
But three examples.
A reminder.
That life isn't measured only by its length.
It's measured by presence.
By shared moments.
I trust.
By affection freely given.
By safety freely received.
Your companion did not spend their days counting how many they had left.
They spent time living the day they were given.
And because of you.
So many of those days were filled with comfort with warmth.
With love.
And with belonging.
There's something I would like you to consider.
Not as a belief you must accept.
Only has a gentle possibility.
What is the deepest part of your relationship?
Did not end with their final breaths.
What if the relationship simply changed?
You can no longer stroke their fur.
Hear their footsteps.
Meet their eyes.
But can you still feel gratitude?
Can you still smile at the memory?
Can you still become a kinder person because they were once part of your life?
Can you still offer another animal the patience they taught you?
Can you still notice beauty because they once helped you notice it?
If the answer is yes.
Then something of that relationship is still alive.
Not in the way you wish.
But in the way love quietly continues.
Love changes us.
And what changes us.
Remains part of who we become.
Perhaps you're worried at smiling again or laughing again.
Who means leaving them behind.
But love doesn't ask that of us.
Joy is not a betrayal.
Peace is not forgetting.
Hear me.
Is not replacing.
Your heart is large enough to carry both sorrows.
And gratitude.
Pose for you.
And gentle happiness.
One feeling does not erase the other.
They simply learn.
Very slowly.
To live beside one another.
As you breathe quietly.
Place one hand over your heart if that feels natural.
Not as a ritual.
Not because it has special power.
Simply as a small gesture of kindness toward yourself.
Feel the warmth beneath your hand.
The steady rhythm of your heartbeat.
The same heart loves to your companion.
This same heart misses them.
And this same heart.
Still has the remarkable ability to love.
That ability was never taken away.
It may feel bruised.
Tender.
Protective.
But it's still there.
Love did not leave your life.
It simply has a different shape now.
Stay here for a little while longer.
Not trying to hold on.
Not trying to let go.
Holy Allowing Love.
Belonging love.
To be exactly what it is.
Quiet.
Faithful.
Enjoy.
For these last few minutes.
There is nothing left to solve.
Nothing left to understand.
Nothing you need to do.
Simply remain here.
With a heart that has loved deeply.
And heart that is learning.
Very gently.
How to carry that love forward.
There is a quiet truth that grief slowly reveals.
Merry Blaze.
Sometimes not even once.
Little by little.
One ordinary morning at a time.
It is this.
Lover never asked you to stop living.
Your companion never loved you so that one day you would become trapped inside sadness.
They loved you.
While you were living.
While you laughed.
While you made mistakes.
While you hurried through busy days.
While you rested beside them in peaceful silence.
Life was always moving.
And your love moved with it.
Perhaps there will come a morning.
Not tomorrow.
Not because you force it.
When you think of them and before the tears arrive.
A smile appears first.
Not because you miss them less.
But because gratitude has quietly grown beside the grief.
You remember something they did.
Something wonderfully silly.
Something uniquely theirs.
And instead of breaking your heart.
It warms it.
That day isn't the end of your love.
It's another way your love continues.
Your grief does not measure weakness.
It measures attachment.
Your tears.
Do not measure fragility.
They measure tenderness.
The ink inside you.
Doesn't mean you're unable to heal.
It means your heart recognizes something precious.
There's nothing shameful about that.
There never was.
If you've been wondering whether you're grieving for too long.
Perhaps today you can let go of that question Grief is not an examination.
There's no passing grade.
The deadline.
No finish line.
There is only the slow,
Very human process.
Of learning how to carry both love and absence in the same heart.
Some days.
The absence will feel heavier.
Other days.
The love will feel brighter.
Neither day is more correct than the other.
Both belong.
And if in the weeks or months ahead her wave of sadness returns unexpectedly.
Perhaps you remember this.
A wave doesn't mean the ocean has taken you.
It only means.
.
.
You're standing beside something deep.
Let it come.
Let it soften.
And trust that.
Just as every wave has done before.
It will gently recede.
Leaving you.
With another small measure of strength.
You didn't know you were gathering.
Before we finish,
I'd like to invite you to do something very simple silently.
Say your companion's name.
Who he wants.
Picture their face.
Whatever comes to your heart.
Take your time.
And down.
Without trying to hear an answer.
Allow yourself to say the words you perhaps still carry inside.
Thank you.
Thank you.
For your trust.
For your companionship.
Thank you for your loyalty.
Thank you for all your patience.
Thank you for your wonderful joy.
Thank you for the laughter.
For the comfort.
For every beautiful day we share.
Thank you for letting me love you.
If it feels right.
Imagine those words settling gently into the silence between you.
Nothing dramatic or extraordinary.
Just a quiet expression of love.
Sometimes.
Love doesn't need a reply.
Sometimes.
Speaking it is enough.
As this meditation comes to an end.
Notice your breathing once again.
Natural.
Easy.
And hurry.
Notice the gentle support beneath your body.
Notice the room around you.
The sounds nearby.
The quiet awareness that you are here.
In this moment.
Carry nothing away from today except this understanding.
Your grief is not a sign that something is wrong with you.
It's evidence that something beautiful happened.
You loved.
And you will love the return.
That love shaped your life.
Nothing can undo that.
Nothing.
Whenever you think of your companion in the future.
You don't have to choose between smiling and crying.
Sometimes your heart will do both.
And perhaps.
.
.
That is one of the most honest forms of love there is.
Thank you for allowing me to spend this time with you.
I hope that,
Wherever you are in your journey,
You leave this moment feeling just a little less alone.
A little gentler with yourself and a little more certain that the love you shared has not disappeared.
It has simply become part of who you are.
Take another slow breath in.
And as you exhale.
When you're ready.
Gently begin to wiggle your fingers.
And toes.
Allow your eyes to open naturally.
There's nowhere you need to rush.
Take all the time you need.
And that you continue with the rest of your day.
May you carry not only the memory of your beloved companion,
But also the quiet certainty.
That a love like yours.
Never becomes meaningless simply because it cannot continue in the same way.
It remains.
It always remains.
Thank you for being here.
Until we meet again.
Take good care of yourself.
And may peace find you.
One gentle moment.
At the time.
