Hello there.
Thank you so much for joining me for this reading of another classical parable.
This is another one of Aesop's fables called The Crow and The Picture.
This is a very sweet little story.
About resilience and patience,
Resourcefulness,
Doing the next thing when sometimes it can seem like our progress is very painfully slow,
Just moving onwards,
Taking the next step.
Thinking outside the box.
And with effort,
Patience and time.
Hopefully getting to what we want.
So before we get into the story here.
.
.
Let's just take a moment.
To have nice Deep exhale.
Letting go of the day.
Letting go of whichever baggage we might be bringing along with us into this moment.
For right now.
There's nowhere else we have to go.
Nothing else we have to be doing.
So we can just relax.
Get ourselves comfortable.
And enjoy.
Another classic old parable.
The crow and the picture.
One long day.
Hot summer.
The land grew dry.
And the streams began to shrink.
A crow flew across the countryside in search of water.
Her throat was parched.
And her wings were growing heavy with exhaustion.
She searched near the fields and along the dusty paths.
But everywhere she looked.
The ground was dry.
At last,
She noticed a picture standing near a house.
Hopeful,
She flew down and peered inside.
There was water at the bottom.
The crow was delighted.
She pushed her beak into the narrow opening,
Hoping to reach the water.
It was too far down.
She tried tipping the pitcher,
Hoping to spill a little water towards the opening.
But the picture was too heavy.
She pushed at it with her beak.
She tried again from another angle.
Nothing worked.
The water.
Was there,
So close.
And yet completely out of reach For a moment,
The crow sat beside the pitcher.
Wondering what?
To do.
The men.
She noticed some small pebbles scattered on the ground nearby.
An idea came to her.
She picked up a pebble in her beak and dropped it into the pitcher.
She picked up another and dropped that in too.
One by one.
She carried the pebbles to the pitcher and dropped them through the narrow opening.
It was slow work.
The pebbles made it.
Very little difference at first,
And the water seemed hardly to move.
But the crow continued.
Another pebble.
Than another.
Gradually the water began to rise.
The crow kept going until at last the water reached a height where she can dip her beak.
Into it.
She drank.
Deeply.
Quenching her thirst at last.
What had seemed impossible.
Had become.
Possible.
One small pebble.
At the time.
And the crow flew happily away.
Refreshed having discovered that a little patience and ingenuity could solve a problem that strengthens it.
Alone.
Could not.
Sometimes in life we find ourselves facing issues that seem impossible to solve.
We tried one thing.
And another.
Nothing seems to make much difference.
But not every problem has to be solved all at once.
Often progress comes through small steps.
Repeated patiently.
Until something begins to change.
If life feels overwhelming.
We can remember the crow.
In the picture.
We might not be able to do everything right away.
We might be able,
Though,
To do one small thing.
And one small thing can be exactly where change begins.
