Welcome back to Moving Prayer.
In lesson 1,
You learned the first 8 steps of our 12-step sequence.
In this lesson,
We'll finish the sequence with steps 9 through 12.
These final four steps introduce a pivot,
Which changes your facing direction.
Because you're practicing without watching a screen.
Listen carefully to the directional cues and let your body follow them.
When convenient.
I encourage you to view Moving Prayer Steps 9-12 for Christ-centered devotion.
Before beginning,
Be sure the first eight steps feel familiar.
Review lesson one if needed.
Wear comfortable clothing and secure footwear.
And make sure you have enough open space to move safely.
Keep a stable chair or counter nearby for additional support.
Let's begin.
Step 8 ends with your weight on both feet and arms open wide.
Palms and gaze forward.
Step 9.
Move right foot to the right laterally,
Toes pointing straight ahead.
Extended right arm lowers as extended left arm rises.
Step 10.
Lift your right toes up.
Flexing your right ankle.
Your right arm moves toward the left.
It crosses the midline of your body and your elbow bends at your waist,
Hand reaching towards your chin.
Simultaneously.
Your left arm extends to the right.
Descending past your right shoulder.
Crossing the midline of your body toward your right knee.
Step 11.
You're going to pivot your whole body 90 degrees to the right.
The pivot breaks down like this.
From the waist down.
With your right ankle flexed and your toes up.
Root the right heel into the ground.
Rotate your right hip open 90 degrees,
Pointing your right knee upward.
Leg is long.
Your left heel lifts up as your left hip rotates closed,
90 degrees,
Pointing your left knee downward,
Bending your knee.
Your weight is now distributed firmly between the heel of your right foot and the ball of your left.
Lower the right toes,
Shifting your weight onto the right.
Bending the right knee.
Or from the waist up.
Your right arm extends forward,
Palm up,
Gaze forward.
Your left arm bends at the elbow,
Tucking in at the waist.
Palm up.
This will become much clearer after you view Lesson 2.
Moving Prayer,
Steps 9-12 for Christ-Centered Devotion Sew.
At the end of count 11.
Your right leg is forward,
Knee bent,
And right arm extends forward,
Palm up.
And your left leg extends,
Rooting the ball of your left foot into the ground and your left elbow bends at the waist,
Palm up.
Step 12.
Pushing through the ball of your left foot,
Step your left to meet your right.
Extend your left arm beside the right.
Palms upward.
And settle.
Now let's practice steps 9 through 12.
Listen for my cues.
Just as in steps 1 through 8,
I'll cue each step.
But don't worry about remembering everything at once.
I included a lot of detail,
Especially in step 11.
Listen to my cues.
Feel your body respond.
And gradually become familiar with the pattern.
Let's begin.
Step 9.
Step laterally to the right,
Toes forward,
Right arm descends,
Left arm rises.
Step 10.
Lift right toes as arms continue their arms.
Step 11.
Right hip opens and left hip closes.
Rotate facing 90 degrees to the right.
Look to the right.
Right arm extends,
Left arm tucks at the waist.
Step 12.
Step left to meet right as left arm extends beside the right.
Palms up.
Repeating that sequence one final time.
Notice whether you can stay connected to how the movement feels rather than thinking through every individual instruction.
This time.
I'll only queue the counts.
Let's begin.
9.
10.
Eleven.
12.
Settle.
Now find a comfortable seated position.
Think back over the movement you've just practiced.
If there was a place where you felt uncertain.
Mentally rehearse that moment and imagine yourself moving through it with greater ease.
Return to Lessons 1 and 2.
Until the complete 12-step sequence begins to feel familiar.
In Lesson 3,
We'll move beyond learning the individual steps and begin practicing the complete sequence repeatedly.
Leading first with the right.
And then with the left.
