Take a moment.
And allow yourself to arrive.
There's nowhere else you need to be right now.
Nothing you need to accomplish,
Nothing you need to prove.
For these next few minutes,
You simply get to be here.
If it feels comfortable,
Allow your eyes to close or simply soften your gaze.
And begin by noticing your breathing.
No need to change it yet.
Just notice.
Notice the inhale and notice the exhale.
Now slowly breathe in through your nose.
And release the breath gently.
Again,
Slowly breathing in,
Let your belly expand,
Let your chest rise.
And exhale.
Allow your shoulders to soften.
One more time,
A slow,
Comfortable breathe in.
.
.
And a long,
Easy,
Breathe out.
There are moments when the mind quietly begins keeping score.
What you've accomplished,
What you haven't,
Where you thought you'd be by now.
What someone else seems to have figured out that you haven't.
Maybe it remembers something you said.
Something you wish you'd done differently.
A decision.
A relationship.
An opportunity you missed.
And somewhere inside all of that measuring.
Comparing and judging,
A thought began to form.
Baby.
I'm just not good enough.
Notice what happens inside you when you hear those words.
You don't need to fix anything,
Just notice.
What is that feeling?
Show up in your body.
Maybe there's a tightness in your chest.
A heaviness in your stomach,
Tension around your jaw.
Or perhaps you don't notice anything at all.
That's okay too.
Whatever is here.
Let it be here for a moment without judgment.
Now bring your attention back to that thought.
I'm not good enough.
And instead of trying to convince yourself that it's wrong.
Let's do something different.
Silently add three words in front of it.
I'm having the thought.
That I'm not good enough.
Notice the difference.
I'm not good enough.
Becomes.
I'm having the thought.
That I'm not good enough.
That little bit of space matters.
Because you're not every thought that passes through your mind.
A thought can feel convincing.
Without being a fan.
A thought can be familiar without being true.
And a thought about your worth.
Is not the same thing as your work.
Maybe that critical voice has been with you for a long time.
Perhaps somewhere along the way,
You learned that being hard on yourself would keep you motivated.
Keep you safe.
Keep you from failing.
Keep you from being rejected.
And perhaps that voice believes it's helping.
So we don't have to fight it.
We don't have to silence it.
And we don't have to let it dry.
Imagine that critical voice sitting beside you rather than inside you.
You can hear it without obeying it.
You can acknowledge it.
Without handing it the staring will?
Now take another slow breath in.
.
.
And release.
Now I'd like you to consider something.
Before your accomplishments.
Before your job.
Before your education.
Before anyone approved of you.
Before anyone rejected you.
There was still.
And always will be.
Your worth did not begin the day somebody recognized it.
And it doesn't disappear on the days when you struggle to recognize it in yourself.
You are allowed to grow,
Without treating your present self as a problem that needs fixing.
You are allowed to want more for yourself.
Without making who you are today.
Less fat.
There's a difference between saying,
I want to grow and saying,
I will finally be worthy when I do.
Let that distinction settle.
If it feels comfortable,
Place one hand over your chest or simply allow your hands to rest wherever they are.
That I want you to imagine for a moment.
That someone you deeply cared about came to you carrying the same exact fear.
I'm not good enough.
Notice how you might speak to them.
Would you list their failures?
Would you compare them to everyone around them?
Would you tell them they need to accomplish a little more before they deserve kindness?
Probably not.
So just for this moment.
See if you can offer yourself some of that same humanity.
Silently repeat after me.
I don't have to be perfect to be worthy.
I can make mistakes and still respect myself.
I can be unfinished and still be enough.
My worth is not something I have to earn today.
And if any of those statements feel difficult to believe.
That's okay.
You don't have to force them.
Maybe for today the practice is simply becoming willing to question the voice that says otherwise.
Now take another slow breath in.
And let it go.
Fill the surface beneath you.
Notice the weight of your body being supported.
You don't have to hold everything up right now.
You can let yourself be supported.
And before we finish,
I'd like you to carry one sentence with you.
Not as an affirmation you have to force yourself to believe.
But it's something you can return.
When the inner critic It's loud.
A thought about my worth.
Is not my worth.
Let's try that one more time.
I thought about my worth.
It's not my way.
Notice your breathing again.
Notice your body.
Notice the room around you.
Begin gently moving your fingers,
Your toes.
Maybe rolling your shoulders.
And whenever you're ready.
Allow your eyes to open.
Bye.
Take your time.
You don't need to leave this meditation having figured yourself out.
You don't need to become a different person.
Today.
Maybe it's enough.
To stop treating yourself like someone you have to defeat.
Thank you for spending these moments with me.
Take care of yourself.
You
