This short, guided practice invites children to visualize smelling and cooling down a yummy mug of hot chocolate. It's a fun way for children to learn a breathing technique and nourish themselves at the same time. It contains relaxing, gentle music in the background.

Let's do some hot chocolate breathing together.

Having found yourself a space,

Sitting comfortably,

Pretend you are holding a mug of hot chocolate.

Yours might have cream or marshmallows in it.

Hold it in front of you and wrap both of your hands around the cup.

It's warm.

Can you feel it?

It's much too hot to drink at the moment,

So let's blow on it to cool it down.

Take a slow breath in and imagine you are smelling the yummy hot chocolate smell.

Blow it slowly to cool it down.

And in,

Breathe in the chocolate smell.

And out,

Blow it down.

Breathe in,

Fill up your lungs with the delicious smell and blow it slowly to cool it down.

Breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth.

This is what this meditation is really about,

Our breathing.

Now take a little sip of your drink.

Taste the chocolate on your tongue.

Make an NNN sound on your out breath.

Let's try.

Breathing in,

Make an NNN sound as you breathe out.

And take another sip.

Let's put our hot chocolate down and smile.

Well done for taking time out of your day to care for your precious self.

I just did this, without my kids, just to see if this would be something they would enjoy doing. And as a mom, I needed this probably more than they would. But I will be sharing this with them, I think they would like this as much as I did.
