This Guided meditation will guide you on an inner journey to explore your heart and identify what parts of you are protecting it from suffering. You will discover a few of your Parts, gain insights into the totality of who you are, and feel a deeper sense of wholeness. This meditation is based on the Internal Family Systems Model.

I would invite you to close your eyes and to take a few deep breaths.

As much as possible for the next half an hour just let go of anything that is waiting you down or anything that is occupying your mind.

Today we are going to explore how your heart looks like.

Just know that it doesn't need to be your physical heart,

The one beating in your chest and sending blood throughout your body,

It can also be an image that somehow pops up in your mind of how your heart looks like.

Just in case you don't have such an image then I would invite you to start imagining your real heart beating in your chest and we are going to go into a bit of an exploration of the qualities of your heart and we are probably going to meet some of your parts.

So first of all I would invite you to notice where is your heart located,

Whether you can clearly see your heart beating in your chest or whether you see another image of your heart in front of you,

Just notice is your heart free or is your heart trapped in some external cage or structure that is keeping it somehow away from you or that is keeping it caged,

Isolated or simply enough shielded from the outer world.

Next I would like you to notice whether you can reach for your heart or whether there is anything between you and your heart that doesn't allow you to do so,

Maybe there is a glass window,

Maybe there are electric shocks,

Just bring your attention to anything that you might see or feel into your body so that you can notice the degree of freedom of your heart and the degree of freedom that you have for reaching out for your heart and the degree of freedom that you have for reacting to it.

Don't worry in case you are not seeing or feeling anything so far,

Some people need to repeat this meditation two or three times before they can see or feel something that is meaningful but it is very worth the time,

This is an exploration that will accompany you for a very long time and every time you will repeat this you are going to see different things,

You are going to notice something new,

Your heart will change and modify based on the work that you are going to do.

Next I would invite you to bring your attention to how open or clenched your heart is,

I would like you to imagine a flow of energy that is going through your heart and this flow of energy goes through your heart in each and every spot or there are parts of your heart in which the energy cannot flow through,

In which the energy is just locked or ejected,

In which your heart is so clenched and closed that nothing really can go through.

Next I would invite you to notice the surface of your heart,

You can imagine yourself working on the surface of it so that you can notice all its little details,

How does the surface of your heart looks like,

Is it smooth,

Is it pinkish or maybe in some spots it looks like blackened leather,

Maybe there are spots in which it looks rough,

Maybe you can see parts of your heart that look like burned.

Next I would like you to notice the surface of your heart,

You can imagine a flow of energy that is going through your heart.

Next I will ask you to bring out all the curiosity that you might have stored somewhere in your mind,

In your body,

Just reach out for as much curiosity as you can and I would invite you to get a closer look at those parts of your heart,

Feel or look like they are clenched,

Those parts of your heart that look scarred,

Those parts of your heart that look blackened or rough.

I would like you to bring your attention to one of these spots,

One of these spots that look weird or feel different from the rest of your heart.

This is most probably one of your protectors and it has been doing its very best to protect this part of your heart.

I would like you to ask this part,

How have you been protecting me throughout my life?

And I would like you to ask this part,

What are you scared would happen if you let my heart be open or unclenched or be smooth?

Next I would like you to ask this part,

What does it want from you?

What does it want for you in your life?

And now I would like you to express in any way that feels true and genuine to you,

Any kind of appreciation for this part of you who has been protecting you for so long.

This part of you deeply cares about you.

I would like you to bring your appreciation or gratitude or even just understanding to this part.

I would like you to express in any way that feels true or unclenched or be smooth.

You can notice whether there were any changes in how your part feels like or in how your heart looks like.

You can repeat this guided inner exploration anytime you want to see more details or to explore other corners or parts of your heart that look different or that somehow feel in a different way.

And for now I would like you to thank any part or parts you might have noticed and might have opened up and shared with you.

Now I would like you to take another deep breath,

Feeling once again the flow of air in your body becoming aware again of being in your body.

You can bring your awareness to any sounds or smells that might be in the environment surrounding you and when it feels right and it feels good you can open your eyes and get used again to the light and the room and everything else.
