Hi,
I'm Tonya,
And welcome.
Today we're talking about progress over perfection.
And what happens when the pressure to get everything right keeps us from moving forward.
If you're someone who overthinks,
Compares,
Constantly feels like what you're doing isn't quite good enough.
This practice is for you.
We'll spend a little time talking about perfectionism and then we'll move into a short guided meditation to help you let go of some of that pressure and anxiety.
Recognize how far you've already come,
And give yourself permission to keep moving forward imperfectly.
So before we begin,
Take a moment to settle into your space.
And find a position that feels comfortable to you.
Allow your hands to rest.
Somewhere naturally.
And when you're ready.
Gently close your eyes or.
Simply soften your gaze.
And let's take a deep breath in together.
And let it go slowly.
One more time.
Breathing in.
Breathing out.
Allow your shoulders.
Hop in.
And your jaw to unclench.
And let your body know that for these next few minutes,
There's nowhere else you need to be.
Nothing you need to accomplish.
And certainly nothing you need to do perfectly.
Just be here.
As you are.
I have to remind myself.
Us all the time.
Progress.
Over perfection.
It's one of those phrases that sounds simple.
But actually living it.
A lot harder.
Because perfectionism can be sneaky.
Sometimes it looks like.
Not starting because you don't feel ready.
Sometimes it's.
Doing something over and over.
Because it's still.
Doesn't feel good enough.
And sometimes it's looking at you.
What someone else is doing and thinking.
Why even bother?
And sometimes we don't even call it perfectionism.
We tell ourselves.
I'll do it when I'm ready.
I need more time.
I need to figure out.
Everything first.
Underneath.
Those feelings.
There can be fear.
Fear of failing.
Europe.
Being judged.
Fear of getting it wrong.
I've experienced this too in my own life.
And I'm learning that confidence doesn't always come.
Before we begin.
Sometimes confidence comes because we begin.
Because we tried.
Because we realized we didn't have to do it perfectly.
To keep going.
Take a slow breath in.
Perfection.
Tells us our progress only counts when we reach the finish line.
But progress can be much quieter.
Good night.
Maybe you handled something differently today than you would have a year ago.
Maybe you finally said no.
Maybe you simply pause instead of falling back into old patterns.
And that,
My friends.
.
.
That counts.
Sometimes we're so focused on how far we still have to go.
That we forget to turn around and see just how far we've come.
So let's do that together now.
Take a slow breath in.
And let it go.
And as you do,
Think about the past version of yourself.
Maybe from five years ago.
Think about something you were struggling with.
And then notice.
Where you're at today.
Maybe you didn't do it perfectly.
Maybe you made a few mistakes.
And maybe,
Just maybe,
You're still figuring it out.
But guess what?
Are here.
So breathe that in.
And then quietly remind yourself.
I don't have to have it all figured out.
Now think of one thing you're proud of.
It doesn't have to be something big.
Maybe it's something no one else even knows what's hard for you.
Something you did.
Something you survive.
Something you changed.
Instead of.
Minimizing it.
But yourself.
Acknowledge it.
And then quietly say to yourself.
I did that.
Let yourself feel what it feels.
To give credit to yourself.
Remember,
Small steps count.
Showing up imperfectly counts.
And finally.
I don't have to be perfect to be proud of myself.
Take a slow breath in.
And let it go.
And just bring awareness back into your space.
Just notice the sounds around you.
Where you are.
Just wiggle your fingers and your toes.
And before you move on with this day,
Remember this.
You don't have to wait until you've reached some imaginary finish line to be proud of yourself.
Every step.
Counts.
Every time you begin again matters.
Your life isn't asking you to get everything right.
It's asking you to live it.
Thank you for spending these few moments with me.
And for taking this time for you.
I hope you'll come back.
Again and join me.
In one moment.
