Worksheet
Created in collaboration with licensed clinical psychologist and sex therapist Dr. Piper Grant, PsyD, this worksheet normalizes maternal identity shifts. It reframes this developmental process to reduce internal shame and foster deep self-compassion.

Introduce this reflective guide during perinatal therapy sessions or postpartum check-ins. Direct the client to complete the "Matrescence Map" to evaluate five distinct developmental domains: body, mind, relationships, identity, and culture. Use the structured follow-up questions to trace shifts in personal values and explore the natural push-and-pull between past and current versions of the self. Allow clients to move through the integration prompts slowly to safely honor their evolution.
This guide is written for new mothers, matrescence-stage parents, and postpartum individuals experiencing disorientation, grief, or confusion regarding their changing priorities and relationships. Additionally, it provides an objective developmental framework for perinatal psychologists, marriage and family therapists, social workers, and postpartum care specialists.
