Worksheet
This worksheet helps clients locate their Self, the calm, compassionate core that IFS holds as always present beneath protective parts. It was created in collaboration with Dr. Richard Schwartz, PhD, founder of Internal Family Systems. Clients map the 8 Cs of Self, recognize when a part has taken the lead, and identify practices that restore Self-led awareness.

Introduce the worksheet after clients have some familiarity with the concept of "parts." Use it early in a session to orient clients toward Self before deeper parts work begins. Walk through the 8 Cs together, then let clients self-rate which qualities feel accessible right now. Use the "blended" indicators as a shared vocabulary for real-time check-ins during sessions. Assign the reflection prompts as between-session practice to reinforce Self-led awareness.
This worksheet suits therapists and coaches trained in or exploring Internal Family Systems, including those working with trauma, anxiety, and self-criticism. It also serves clients who are new to IFS and need a concrete, visual entry point into the concept of Self.
