Passing Train Ambience Compilation
by Ryan Garner
I spend a lot of time recording trains. Some of these I sell online as sound effects, but most of them are really just for my own enjoyment. Trains passing may not be the most relaxing sound to most people, but I'm sure there are some out there with fond memories attached to this sound. When I was much younger, I was obsessed with trains. Each Sunday, my Grandad would take me to watch the trains from various bridges near their house. We stood there watching the trains together for long periods of time. Occasionally, he would lift me up so I could gesture to the train drivers and they would sound the horn at me if I was lucky. Sadly, I lost my Grandad suddenly when I was 17. His name was Alvin. What I am left with, however, is powerful and potent memories of those moments with him. For me, the sound of trains passing transports me back to those simple and happy times. I think this is why I record train sounds so often, to cling to that nostalgia and memory.
