Roadside Ambience - Sweeping Cars
by Ryan Garner
This was a happy accident really. I was en route on the train to a duck pond to record the ducks. Unfortunately, my train terminated at the next station due to a few issues on the line. As a result, I found myself at a train station in the middle of nowhere for an hour until the next train arrived. Whilst there, I stopped at the nearby pub for a coffee and watched the cars drifting by the window. When I emerged from the pub, I was amazed at how quiet the area was. There was very little sound, just the hiss and rumble of cars sweeping by me. I still had some time to kill and decided to sit by the roadside, embroiled in a crisp winter breeze, and capture the sounds of the cars passing. I really liked the juxtaposition between the silence, cars, and subtle distant sounds. If you listen on headphones, you can hear the subtleties between the cars - distant bird song, a trundling tractor and a plane passing overhead too.
