Hello dear friend,

Welcome.

I am so glad you are here tonight.

You have made a beautiful choice to set this time aside,

To give yourself this precious gift of rest.

There is nothing else you need to do right now,

Nowhere else you need to be,

No one else you need to take care of in this moment.

This time is just for you.

It is a sacred space,

A quiet sanctuary for you to find deep,

Peaceful,

Restorative sleep in the loving presence of Jesus.

Let's begin by getting comfortable.

Take a moment to settle into your bed.

Feel the softness of the pillows cradling your head.

Feel the gentle weight of the blankets around you,

Wrapping you in warmth and comfort.

Let your body begin to feel heavy,

Supported,

And completely safe.

There is nothing to hold up anymore,

No tension to maintain.

You can let everything go.

Wiggle your toes one last time,

And then let them be perfectly still.

Roll your ankles gently,

And then let them relax.

Feel your legs becoming heavy,

Sinking deeper into the mattress beneath you.

Now,

Adjust your shoulders.

Let them fall away from your ears,

Releasing any tightness you might be holding there.

Let your shoulders melt into the bed.

Allow your arms to rest gently by your sides,

Your hands open and relaxed,

Your palms facing up or down,

Whatever feels most natural and comfortable to you.

Soften the muscles in your face.

Unclench your jaw.

Let your tongue rest gently in your mouth.

Smooth out your forehead.

Let your eyes be soft behind your closed eyelids.

There is nothing to look at now,

Nothing to see,

Just darkness and peace and rest.

Now,

Bring your awareness to your breath.

Don't try to change it in any way,

Just notice it.

Notice the gentle rise and fall of your chest.

Notice the quiet,

Steady rhythm of your body breathing all on its own.

You don't have to think about it.

Your body knows what to do.

You are alive,

You are here,

And you are held in the palm of God's hand.

Let's take a few slow,

Deep breaths together.

We're going to breathe in God's peace and breathe out all of our worries.

Are you ready?

Let's begin.

Gently breathe in,

Slowly,

Deeply,

Filling your lungs with the pure,

Clean air of this quiet night.

Imagine you are breathing in the very peace of God.

Feel it entering your body,

Filling every cell with calm.

Hold it there for just a moment.

Let it settle.

And now,

Breathe out,

Slowly,

Completely.

As you exhale,

Release the day.

Let go of the to-do lists that are still running through your mind.

Let go of the conversations you had,

The words that were said,

The things that were left unsaid.

Let go of the unspoken fears,

The quiet anxieties.

Just let them all drift away with your breath,

Dissolving into the night air.

Let's do that again.

A long,

Slow breath in,

Breathing in God's unending love for you.

Feel it fill your heart with warmth.

Feel it calm your racing mind.

Feel it relax every muscle in your body.

And now,

A long,

Slow breath out,

Releasing any remaining tension you might be holding in your jaw,

In your shoulders,

In your stomach,

In your hands.

Let it all go.

You don't need it anymore.

One more time together.

Breathe in God's perfect peace.

Hold it gently,

And breathe out your worries.

Let them go.

They are not yours to carry tonight.

Good.

That was wonderful.

Just continue to breathe naturally now,

At your own gentle pace.

With every breath in,

You are receiving peace.

With every breath out,

You are releasing tension.

With every breath,

You are signaling to your body that it is time for rest.

It is time to let go.

It is time to sleep.

Now,

I want you to imagine something beautiful.

Imagine for a moment that Jesus is in the room with you.

He is not a distant figure from a story long ago.

He is a warm,

Living,

Loving presence,

Right here,

Right now.

Picture him sitting quietly in a comfortable chair near your bed.

Perhaps there is soft lamplight falling on his face.

His expression is one of pure,

Gentle love.

He is watching over you with so much tenderness in his eyes.

There is no judgment in his gaze,

No disappointment,

No expectation.

Just pure,

Unconditional,

Overwhelming love.

He is here to guard your sleep,

To protect your dreams,

To keep watch through the night so that you don't have to.

The room is filled with his peace.

You can feel it settling over you like the softest,

Warmest blanket you have ever known.

It covers you from head to toe.

It wraps around your heart.

You are safe.

You are protected.

You are so,

So deeply loved.

Now,

Let your mind drift with me to a peaceful place.

A place of perfect serenity and stillness.

A place where time slows down and worries simply do not exist.

Imagine you are walking barefoot along the edge of a quiet,

Still lake at sunset.

The day is ending and the world is growing soft and quiet.

The sand beneath your feet is cool and soft,

Molded perfectly to your every step.

It feels wonderful between your toes.

Each step is slow and unhurried.

There is nowhere you need to be,

Nothing you need to do.

You are simply walking,

Slowly,

Peacefully,

Along the water's edge.

The sun is a gentle orb of warm,

Golden light hanging low in the western sky.

It casts a shimmering path of gold across the still water,

A pathway of light that leads all the way to the horizon.

The colors in the sky are breathtaking in their softness.

Gentle pinks blending into soft lavenders.

A warm,

Buttery yellow fading into a deep,

Peaceful blue.

The clouds are painted with these colors,

Drifting slowly,

Lazily across the sky.

There are no harsh sounds here,

No traffic,

No voices,

No buzzing phones.

Only the gentle,

Rhythmic lapping of the water against the shore.

It's a soft,

Shushing sound,

Like a lullaby from the earth itself.

Shhh.

It's so soothing,

So calming.

Your mind begins to slow down to match this gentle rhythm.

You notice that Jesus is walking beside you.

He has been there all along.

He isn't speaking,

Just walking with you in comfortable,

Companionable silence.

His presence is a comfort,

A quiet strength,

A steady anchor.

You feel completely at ease in his company.

You don't have to pretend to be anything you're not.

You don't have to be strong or have it all together.

You can just be yourself.

You can just be.

A cool,

Gentle breeze drifts across the water,

Brushing softly against your cheek.

It's like a gentle caress.

It carries the fresh,

Clean scent of water and earth and evening air.

It feels so refreshing,

So cleansing.

It seems to carry away any lingering thoughts from the day,

Any worries that were still clinging to the edges of your mind.

It leaves your mind clear and calm and beautifully still.

You look down and see the water gently swirling around your ankles.

It's cool,

But not cold.

It feels silky and soft against your skin,

Like liquid silk.

With each tiny wave that washes over your feet,

You feel another layer of stress just washing away,

Washing away into the vastness of the lake.

The water takes it.

You don't need to hold onto it anymore.

You and Jesus find a spot to sit on the soft,

Grassy bank that slopes gently down to the water's edge.

The grass is like velvet beneath you,

Thick and soft and green.

You can feel the gentle coolness of the earth supporting you.

You lean back on your hands and look out at the water.

The last sliver of the golden sun is dipping below the horizon,

Painting the sky in one final blaze of soft color.

And then it's gone,

And the first faint stars are beginning to appear in the deep purple sky.

They twinkle like tiny,

Distant diamonds scattered across the heavens.

Jesus is sitting there with you,

His presence a quiet promise of safety and love.

You don't need to talk.

There is nothing that needs to be said.

You just sit together,

Side by side,

Watching the day come to a gentle,

Peaceful close.

The world is slowing down.

Your thoughts are slowing down.

Your heartbeat is slowing down.

Everything is becoming peaceful,

Quiet,

And perfectly still.

You are completely at rest,

Completely at peace.

As you rest here in this safe and peaceful place,

Let the words of God wash over you.

Let them sink deep into your heart,

Bringing you comfort and peace and the assurance of his love.

There is nothing for you to do but listen and receive.

These words are a gift for you tonight.

The first verse is from the book of Psalms,

Chapter 4,

Verse 8.

Listen to these beautiful words.

In peace,

I will both lie down and sleep.

For you alone,

O Lord,

Make me dwell in safety.

This means you can let go of the need to be on guard.

You can release the tension in your shoulders and the tightness in your chest.

You don't have to stay alert.

You don't have to worry about what might happen in the night.

God himself is your safety.

He is your protector.

He is the one who is watching over you as you sleep.

You don't have to do it all yourself.

You don't have to be strong enough.

You can just lie down and sleep.

He is making you dwell in safety.

He is creating a safe place for you to rest.

In peace,

I will lie down and sleep.

For you alone,

Lord,

Make me dwell in safety.

You are safe.

You can sleep now.

Now,

Listen to the gentle,

Loving invitation from Jesus himself,

Found in the book of Matthew,

Chapter 11.

Come to me,

All who labor and are heavy laden,

And I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,

For I am gentle and lowly in heart,

And you will find rest for your souls.

For my yoke is easy,

And my burden is light.

Do you feel tired tonight?

Do you feel like you are carrying a heavy weight on your shoulders?

The weight of responsibilities,

Of expectations,

Of worries about the future?

Jesus sees you.

He knows exactly how tired you are,

And he is inviting you right now to come to him.

He doesn't want you to carry those burdens alone.

He wants to give you rest.

Not just sleep,

But real,

Deep,

Soul-level rest.

He says his heart is gentle and humble.

He is not harsh or demanding.

He is kind,

And he says his burden is light.

Imagine,

Right now,

Handing over all of your worries,

All of your fears,

All of your exhaustion to him.

He is reaching out his hands to take them from you.

He is strong enough to carry it all.

You don't have to.

You can find rest for your weary soul.

Come to me,

And I will give you rest.

You will find rest for your souls.

His burden is light.

Let go of yours.

From the beautiful,

Timeless words of Psalm 23,

Perhaps you have heard these words before.

Let them wash over you with new comfort tonight.

The Lord is my shepherd.

I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures.

He leads me beside quiet waters.

He refreshes my soul.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley,

I will fear no evil,

For you are with me.

Your rod and your staff,

They comfort me.

Think of a shepherd caring for his sheep.

The shepherd knows where to find the best grass,

The softest places to rest.

He knows where to find the calmest,

Clearest water.

He protects the sheep from any danger,

From any predator.

He guides them safely through the night.

This is how God cares for you.

He is your shepherd.

He is leading you right now to a place of rest,

To lie down in soft,

Green pastures.

He is leading you beside quiet,

Still waters,

Where your soul can be refreshed.

Even if you feel like you are walking through a dark valley in your life right now,

You do not have to be afraid.

He is with you.

His presence is your comfort and your protection.

He is refreshing your soul even as you sleep.

He makes me lie down in green pastures.

He leads me beside quiet waters.

You are with me.

I will not be afraid.

From the prophet Isaiah chapter 26 verse 3.

A promise of perfect peace.

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you.

Perfect peace.

Doesn't that sound wonderful?

Can you imagine what it would feel like to have perfect peace?

Not just a little bit of calm,

But complete,

Total,

Perfect peace.

This is a promise from God to you.

When your mind is focused on Him,

When you choose to place your trust in Him instead of in your own strength,

He gives you a peace that is perfect,

Complete,

Whole.

It's a peace that doesn't depend on your circumstances being perfect.

It's a peace that comes from knowing you are held by a God who is bigger than any problem,

Any worry,

Any fear.

As you drift off to sleep tonight,

Keep your mind stayed on Him.

Trust in Him and let His perfect peace settle over you like a warm,

Heavy blanket.

You will keep in perfect peace because I trust in you.

Perfect peace.

It is yours.

From the book of Philippians chapter 4.

Do not be anxious about anything,

But in everything,

By prayer and supplication,

With thanksgiving,

Let your requests be made known to God.

And the peace of God,

Which surpasses all understanding,

Will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

It's so easy to feel anxious,

Isn't it?

Especially at night,

When the world is quiet and our minds have space to race.

Our thoughts can spin with worries about tomorrow,

About things we cannot control,

About problems we cannot solve.

But this verse gives us a different way.

Instead of worrying,

We can pray.

We can talk to God about everything,

Every single thing.

Nothing is too small or too big to bring to Him.

He wants to hear it all.

And when we do,

When we bring our worries to Him with thankful hearts,

He gives us a gift,

The peace of God.

A peace that is so profound,

So deep,

So complete,

That it doesn't even make sense to our human minds.

It surpasses all understanding.

And this peace will stand guard over your heart and your mind tonight.

Like a soldier at the gate,

It will protect you from anxiety and fear.

Do not be anxious about anything.

The peace of God will guard your heart.

It surpasses all understanding.

Just receive it.

From the book of Proverbs,

Chapter 3,

Verse 24.

A simple,

Beautiful promise.

If you lie down,

You will not be afraid.

When you lie down,

Your sleep will be sweet.

This is such a gentle promise.

God wants your sleep to be sweet.

He wants it to be a time of peaceful restoration,

A time of healing and renewal,

Not a time of fear or restlessness or tossing and turning.

As you lie here now in the quiet darkness,

You do not need to be afraid.

Not of the dark,

Not of tomorrow,

Not of anything that might come.

You can let go of fear completely and welcome a sleep that is sweet,

Deep,

And wonderfully refreshing.

Your sleep will be sweet tonight.

You will not be afraid.

Your sleep will be sweet.

Sweet,

Peaceful,

Restful sleep.

Now,

Listen to Jesus' own words,

Spoken directly to His friends,

Found in the book of John,

Chapter 14,

Verse 27.

Peace I leave with you.

My peace I give to you.

Not as the world gives do I give to you.

Let not your hearts be troubled,

Neither let them be afraid.

This is a gift,

A personal gift,

Directly from Jesus to you,

His own peace.

Not the kind of peace the world offers,

Which is temporary and fragile and depends on everything going right.

This is divine peace,

Lasting peace,

Unshakable peace.

He gives it to you freely,

Without condition.

It is yours to receive.

So let your heart be still tonight.

Let go of your troubles,

Release your fears.

They have no place here.

Receive the peace that Jesus Himself is giving you,

Right now,

In this very moment.

My peace I give to you.

Let not your hearts be troubled,

Neither let them be afraid.

From Psalm 121,

Verses 3 and 4.

Words of comfort about God's watchful care.

He will not let your foot be moved.

He who keeps you will not slumber.

Behold,

He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

Isn't it comforting to know that God never sleeps?

He never gets tired.

He never closes His eyes.

While you are resting,

While you are sleeping,

He is wide awake.

He is watching over you with perfect attention.

He is your keeper.

He never gets distracted.

He is always alert,

Always protecting you,

Always caring for you.

You can fully rest.

You can completely let go.

Because the one who keeps you is always on watch.

He's got you.

You can sleep.

He who keeps you will not slumber.

He will neither slumber nor sleep.

He is watching over you right now.

From the prophet Zephaniah,

Chapter 3,

Verse 17.

One of the most tender pictures of God's love in all of scripture.

The Lord your God is in your midst,

A mighty one who will save.

He will rejoice over you with gladness.

He will quiet you by His love.

He will exalt over you with loud singing.

Imagine this beautiful picture.

The God of the universe,

The creator of all things,

Is not a distant,

Cold,

Or angry God.

He is right here with you,

In your midst,

In your very room.

And He is mighty to save.

He is powerful enough to handle anything.

But more than that,

He rejoices over you.

He is glad that you are His child.

He delights in you.

He quiets you with His love,

Like a mother gently humming to her baby,

Soothing away all fears.

He is so filled with joy over you that He sings.

Can you imagine that?

The God of all creation is singing a lullaby of love over you tonight.

Let His love quiet your heart.

He will quiet you by His love.

He will rejoice over you with gladness.

He is singing over you.

And finally,

A simple but powerful verse from 1 Peter chapter 5 verse 7.

Casting all your anxieties on Him,

Because He cares for you.

It's that simple.

That's all you have to do.

He cares for you,

Deeply,

Personally,

Tenderly.

Every single anxiety,

Every worry,

Every fear,

Every burden you are carrying,

You can cast it on Him.

Throw it to Him.

Give it away.

Imagine gathering all of those heavy things up in your hands right now,

And just handing them over to Him.

He wants to take them.

He is asking you to give them to Him.

He is strong enough to hold them all.

You don't have to carry them through the night.

You can release them completely and totally,

Because you are cared for by the One who made you and loves you more than you can ever know.

Cast all your anxieties on Him,

Because He cares for you.

He cares for you so much.

The words are becoming fewer now,

Further apart.

There is less and less to say.

Your mind is quiet.

Your body is heavy and warm.

You are drifting,

Floating on a gentle sea of peace.

You are loved,

So deeply loved.

You are safe,

Completely safe.

Jesus is here,

Right here with you.

Rest now.

Let go.

Sleep in His peace.

You are held.

You are kept.

Rest.

Sleep.

Sleep now,

Beloved child.

You are loved.
