When we find ourselves facing trouble, we are at choice. We can panic, get angry, or wonder what we might have done to bring in the trouble. In this meditation, we open to the possibility that whatever is making trouble for us is actually an invitation to make a different choice - to pivot - and set an intention for a new, more uplifting and "better" experience. This meditation was recorded live during one of Rev. Bill's twice-a-day Zoom meditations. It concludes with a Practical Prayer.

Why in the world would we do a meditation on troublemakers and the things that come along and disrupt what we thought was a nice orderly process?

And the reason that the troublemakers and the problems and the difficulties in our life are actually helpful is because if we get complacent and we just assume that everything is going to continue being the way that it's been,

Then we stop paying attention and we may not notice when somebody or something is changing the circumstance we're in.

If the ground starts to shift,

It's nice to be aware that the ground is shifting rather than assuming that it's going to be solid and there forever.

Nobody likes having the trouble come along or the troublemakers show up or the hooligans appear in our midst to cause disruption,

But it keeps us on our toes and it reminds us that we're always choosing what's happening next.

Even when the choice is,

I'm going to re-up on what we've had up until now,

That's still a choice.

That's a creative choice.

So that's the meditation today and let's go ahead and close our eyes to the stuff that's going on around us,

The immediacy of the circumstances,

So that we can be open to the bigger picture.

All those things that are going on in our life are right there and they're important and it's important to be aware of them.

And it's also very valuable to be aware of the bigger picture,

What else is going on.

Take a deep full breath,

Let yourself be filled with an even greater awareness of the circumstance and situation that you're in.

And as you breathe out,

Release and let go of your attachment to the notion that that's in any way permanent.

That is always going to be what it is,

Both the ways that it's good and the ways that there might be challenge or trouble or difficulty.

From the place of emptiness and receptivity,

Another deep breath in,

Invite in something brand new.

And in many ways,

This current breath is very similar to every previous bad breath.

And in fact,

It's different.

It's bringing something new and fresh and necessary for right now.

As good as it is,

Let it go.

Another deep full breath out and continue breathing at the pace that's comfortable for you,

Allowing yourself to be filled with a brand new possibility on the inhale and allowing yourself to surrender on the exhale.

The assumptions that things are going to stay the same,

The expectations that you were in control or that we know what's next or that we've seen everything.

And that makes way for the next inhale,

That new awareness,

That new possibility.

Let's breathe into that as we go into the quiet together.

There's a notion of good trouble,

The process of taking on the status quo and getting rid of the assumptions that the way things are is the way things have to be.

The same process happens in remodeling,

Remodeling and turning a space into something that's new and fresh and wonderful starts with a demolition phase of getting rid of the old stuff that's not serving anymore to make way for what's new or what's next.

We get to participate in that same process ourselves.

When things are peaceful,

We can consider what newness is available to us.

Are we happy with the circumstances the way that they are now?

It becomes a check-in.

Am I happy with the way things are going now?

And if not,

What's the freshness that I'm inviting?

And the good part is that we know there is one creative power that creates everything,

That has created each of us and is continuing to create the experience and the world that we live in.

And that power is responding to conscious intent.

So as we choose that next fresh experience,

We want the flavor and the feeling of what we'd like to experience.

That infinite creative power responds and brings the pieces together and into alignment and prompts us as to what's ours to do,

What's ours to release,

So that newness unfolds.

And I'm grateful for it.

I'm grateful for the way that the freshness comes along.

I'm grateful for the guidance and the inspiration.

I'm grateful for the stories that we get to tell about the fresh newness and the process.

So with gratitude for all of this good,

I speak this word and I release it into that creative law that creates everything.

And I know that it's now creating this.

And so I let it be.

And so it is.

Another deep breath in and bring yourself back into the world.
