Calm Water For Deep Sleep
by Rafael Arce
A pond at the grass, pines on the far bank, sky in the water. Inland. Still. No current. About an hour of calm pond sound from lights-out through the stretch where sleep usually arrives. Volume down. Leave it. If you wake, the water is still in the room, so you do not have to hunt. This is the long inland hour, a green bank and a quiet surface, for nights you want still water and no tide.
