Skymind: Pieter Oosthuizen & Charlotte Rotterdam

Pieter Oosthuizen and Charlotte Rotterdam are married co-authors, senior Buddhist teachers, and seasoned contemplative educators dedicated to the intersection of ancient wisdom and modern life. Together, they’ve spent over two decades immersed in Vajrayana Buddhist teachings, and in particular those of Machig Labdrön. They are senior teachers in Lama Tsultrim Allione's lineage. From their early days directing Naropa University’s School for Extended Studies to their leadership roles at Tara Mandala Retreat Center, their partnership has blended devotion, grit, and a constant curiosity about what it means to live with awareness in a world on fire. Their shared teaching emerges from practice as parents, professionals, and spiritual seekers. Whether leading retreats on the non-dual nature of mind, or Skymind, Chöd, or Feeding Your Demons, they emphasize embodied integration, relational dynamics, and accessibility. Their book "Skymind: The Radical Path of Open Awareness" (Shambhala Pubs, 2026) offers a fresh and spacious approach to meditative practice—one that’s rooted in the sky-like nature of awareness and designed for people who may never step into a shrine room. Known for their dynamic, gender-balanced teaching style and grounded warmth, Charlotte and Pieter travel frequently to teach in the Americas, Europe, and South Africa. They live with their two sons in Boulder, Colorado, where they continue to explore how contemplative life meets the mess and mystery of modern living.
