Here we are,
Awake and creative at week 34.
It's beautiful out there.
The weather,
Too hot,
Mind you,
But still inviting us into the outdoors.
The sun shining redolent with bright warmth and rejuvenation.
And oh boy,
Those birds.
Every day,
Early,
Bright spots of delight on the horizon of my ears.
Let's dig in and see what we can discover this week.
My mind has been flitting around many subjects over the course of the past few weeks.
I'm choosing to land on one of those topics here this week with you.
The quote,
I'll say it here and share again at the end,
I saw recently on a trip to Cincinnati.
This is a day trip for me.
I live just an hour and a half away.
The billboard as I wormed my way through the city streets,
Listening to the GPS voice tell me where to turn,
Caught my eye.
It said.
If you want to predict the future,
Create it.
Nothing too profound.
Another clickable like on social media.
But it hits strong.
And I realized,
That's what I'm doing.
As an artist.
Have often been thought of us as way makers.
Prophesying that future.
Artists,
Those artists who create from the space of that internal knowingness,
Not an external eye.
Those artists.
Are telling the story across the canvas in shape and color and line.
That is a language we hope.
Finds its audience that can read it.
And see their way into the future.
As I wake early.
To my morning routine.
And then regularly either walk the dog or.
.
.
Head into the field.
With my hoe,
My watering can,
Or my weed-pulling fingers,
It is with this energy.
Of creating it.
The same happens in the studio.
Blank canvas.
Like the fields I enter.
Of course not full of weeds to pull.
But certainly the latent.
Energetics.
Of a mind filled with ideas.
History.
Even presents.
That all need to be pulled away.
Put away.
What is left behind is the beauty intended.
What is left behind when we can shluff off the history,
Even the memories.
Is the path forward.
Like the rows of my garden beds.
The better I tend them.
The better I spend my time.
Working their straight paths.
The more the future becomes clear.
The latent potential reveals itself.
This one year we are in,
This start.
Has definitely taken a foothold.
The entire compound I inhabit.
Transforming.
Not just the earth and grounds and gardens.
The sun-soaked atmosphere is filling,
And my hands dig in too daily.
But all of the walls,
The windows.
Floors.
Rejuvenating.
I didn't really necessarily see this coming back in January.
But also.
It was right there.
A desire,
An inkling,
That I didn't dare hold faith in.
Coming fully formed now.
In this 34th week of this one year.
Where do you find yourself?
I challenge you this week to pull out a journal.
Piece of paper,
Pen.
Jot down the trajectory of your year so far.
Recall those latent,
Barely present desires and hopes.
Where are they now?
Sure,
Some have fallen away.
Unrealistic.
Unnecessary.
Disconnected from the truth of you.
But others.
Reason to the top taking form.
Being inhabited.
If you want to predict the future.
Create it.
Here you are.
This is the future.
That January 1st predicted.
Keep going.
Awake and creative.
