Week 28,
Awake and creative.
Oh my,
The sun has gotten hot.
The days are beautifully long and everything is blooming.
Now to keep it alive.
Let's dig in.
It's not just the plants growing in my fields to which I aim keeping alive.
It's also the dreams,
The ambitions,
And all those hints of wonder and possibility that have sparked into this one year.
Here we are.
In the thick of summer in this northern hemisphere,
The beauty of growth,
The reward of all those seeds we've planted sprouting and growing and producing fruits of our labor.
For me in the studio,
It's been rich with color and production.
The seeds this year have been the ideas,
The motivations to just be quiet,
Get small,
And work in this space.
It's been a wonder to me to see what can come,
What has come,
From responding to the smallest seed,
This tiny prompt,
This seemingly unintrusive,
Unimportant,
Unanimated seed,
To be quiet and get small.
Even the smallest seed contains so much life.
Piquet Wire is a beautiful author,
Philosopher.
He does a lot of thinking about life,
Exploring physically,
So he can take it back and explore mentally.
The quote I've chosen today plays into the growth,
This reality before us of summer,
Of one small seed growing into a huge plant.
It's about the relationship to the reality of what we put forth coming into being.
This quote is more alive to me in the cycle of seasons than in any other place,
But it translates.
Translates to the canvas,
To the space just beyond my fingertips that looks blank,
Empty,
And before I know it,
In partnership,
It becomes real.
Reality is neither an insult nor an aberration.
Reality is a partner with whom we have to make our lives.
Sometimes we want to look outside,
Outside of my be quiet and get small at that reality and take it as an insult.
The weeds that grow among the seeds I planted.
Insult.
The sideways steps political systems and cultures might take.
Aberration.
But truly,
When we take them as partners,
Do the dance they're asking us to dance.
This is how we make our lives.
So while I don't necessarily welcome the weeds,
I accept them nonetheless and do my due diligence to care for those seeds.
And while I do disparage some of the cultural and political storms outside my front door,
I do not take quiet and small to mean hideaway.
I dance with the reality outside that door and translate it inside my space before going back out.
In partnership,
This is what your life is.
The reality is.
How are you doing your dance today?
Awake and creative.
Today.
