Learn & Chant: Sāvitrī Gāyatrī Mantra – (Session 2)
With Monika Loe
In this second session of the Learn & Chant series, we continue exploring the Sāvitrī Gāyatrī Mantra as a living practice of sound, meaning, and awareness.
We begin by arriving together through breath and shared presence, opening the space again with the traditional mantra Saha nāvavatu — a prayer for mutual support, clarity, and light in learning and practice.
From there, we gently deepen our understanding of the mantra’s meaning and structure, and we take our next step into the sound.
A central part of this session is devoted to listening and pronunciation of the second line:
tat savitur vareṇyaṁ.
We explore how these words can be chanted with ease and clarity — not to make them perfect, but to feel how sound and breath come together in the body. Step by step, we take time with key sounds and the natural flow of the syllables, so the chant becomes more effortless and embodied.
From there, we move into gentle, melodic chanting, beginning in call and response and gradually flowing into a shared, steady chant of the full mantra. You’re welcome to chant aloud, hum softly, or simply listen and rest in the vibration.
We close by allowing the sound to dissolve into silence and integration, resting in the quiet brightness that remains beyond words and melody.
No prior experience with Sanskrit or chanting is needed.
Your breath, your presence, and your willingness to listen are enough.
This is Session 2 of an ongoing series. In the following sessions, we will continue to deepen the practice — exploring further layers of pronunciation, meaning, inner resonance, and meditative flow — step by step, in an embodied and accessible way.
If you’d like to continue practicing between sessions, you’re warmly invited to explore the playlist Sāvitrī Gāyatrī – Learn, Chant & Integrate here on Insight Timer, where all sessions and related chanting tracks are gathered in one place.
With love,
Monika
