Meet your Teacher

Jay Chodagam is a meditation trainer, TEDx speaker, author and event producer. After a successful career in Silicon Valley including co-authoring a number of books at IBM, Jay is now devoted to helping people live more fully. Jay has helped people across the world, to find their purpose and pursue it. Jay's meditation training has proven to improve the quality of personal life and productivity in the workplace, namely, in organizations including Google, McKinsey and Gap. Through his own life, Jay advocates slowing down and “being” before “doing." His meditation commentaries on mobile apps have been heard over 200,000 times.

Lesson 1

What’s Your GQ (Gratitude Quotient)?

In this session, we will begin with an introduction to the idea of gratitude. We will learn how to cultivate gratitude and how over time, it can become engrained in the haibitual. We will also explore how sources of goodness, are often outside ourselves and that taking these for granted or feeling a sense of entitlement, are detrimental to our happiness. Towards the conclusion of this session, by responding to a series of questions, you will evaluate for yourself where you are on the gratitude spectrum.

Lesson 2

About Death And Loss

In today's session we discuss death and loss. Studies suggest contemplating endings, really does make you more grateful for the life that you currently have. We’ll explore a few such endings, while making sure to stay feeling safe here in this space. I will share a personal story, while also helping you to plant the seeds of intention for embracing the opportunities of the present moment and loving those around you to your fullest capacity.

Lesson 3

Good Things Are Gifts, Not Birthrights

Today, on Day 3, we will examine a subliminal conditioning of "advanced society," one in which there is a common belief that people owe us something, just because we’re so very special. We will go deeper into looking at what it is that make people truly happy and how we too, can think with this enlightened mindset, and develop a greater appreciation for life.

Lesson 4

Grateful To People, Not Just Things

My gratitude towards the sun doesn’t make it burn any brighter. But people will glow in gratitude, when they are truly appreciated. In today's session, we will discuss how complimenting people, a state in which their qualities are recognised by another, will bring the best version of themselves to life. In this state of being, they will thrive, excel and shine with radiance.

Lesson 5

Thank Outside The Box

It’s easy when you receive gifts, but can you be grateful to the boyfriend who dumped you, the homeless person who asked for change, the boss who laid you off? In this session, we learn to give everyone equal respect and appreciate those who may have hurt us, for their role in teaching us new wisdom moving forward, and making our lives the unique and diverse journey's that they are.

Lesson 6

Gratitude Journal

Today, we will explore how to systematically cultivate an attitude of gratitude by keeping a gratitude journal. You will need a piece of paper and pen. We will discuss the concept of "daily gratitudes," being the compilation of a list of what we are most grateful for from this day. This practice invites the brain to focus on positive events and therein, enhances our sense of gratitude.

Lesson 7

Celebrate Your Senses

Today, we look into celebrating our senses. Seen through the lens of gratitude, the human body is not only a miraculous construction, but also a gift. Together, we will consciously choose to embrace what we have in this life, and welcome an overarching sense of lightness and joy, in doing so.

Lesson 8

Visual Cues

Today, on Day 8, we will look at visual cues. The two primary obstacles to gratefulness are, forgetfulness and a lack of mindful awareness. We tend to forget these gifts that we have. Yet, sometimes cues can act as a trigger for gratitude. I will start by sharing a deeply moving story and together throughout this session, we will work to uncover ways of becoming acutely aware of the present moment. In doing so, we will ensure that we don't miss vital and, mentally and emotionally stimulating opportunities, that may present themselves.

Lesson 9

Watch Your Language

Studies show that grateful people have a particular linguistic style. In today's session we will explore the usage of language, inherent in goodness and often, is surrounding us. I will share a touching story to express the power of language and how we shouldn't underestimate the profound impact we can have on someone else's life.

Lesson 10

Think Outside The Box

In this final session, we will think outside the box and review everything we've learned throughout the course. We will then go onto flexing our gratitude muscles, to creatively look for new situations and circumstances in which to feel grateful.
