Hello,
My name is Hillary Lafon and I'm so grateful that you've joined me today to explore weekly affirmations,
Pain management.
Living with acute or chronic pain can be discouraging on so many levels.
Feeling as if the world is moving on while you are standing still and suffering.
Please remember,
You are not alone.
Many of us suffer as you do.
Let us comfort each other and ourselves with positive affirmations.
I know it feels that you've tried everything to ease the discomfort.
Many different doctors,
Treatments,
Medications,
Procedures,
Everything.
You have done it all.
But let's practice an exercise to help rewire the brain on how we think and feel about physical,
Emotional and spiritual pain.
What we tell ourselves creates the reality and the world in which we exist.
But first let's breathe.
Relax the body so our mind will follow.
Closing your eyes.
Sitting upright in your chair or lying down.
Make yourself as comfortable as you can in this moment.
Exhaling all your breath out.
And together let's inhale through the nose for the count of four.
Inhaling two,
Three,
Four.
Inhaling for five or six,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six.
Two more times.
Inhaling through the nose,
Taking in a deep breath.
Feeling your chest rise and your stomach expand.
Using all the muscles to sip in the air.
And then exhaling completely and letting something go.
Some physical or emotional ailment.
Breathe it out.
Let that energy go.
One more time.
Inhaling through the nose.
And out the nose or the mouth.
Breathing naturally for yourself and always remembering that my cues are just that.
They're guidelines.
But if the numbers or the time doesn't work for your breath capacity,
Do what feels right for you.
The idea is to practice breathing exercises to encourage more breath in and more breath out.
Do what feels right for you,
Especially in times when we're not feeling great.
So as you breathe and settle,
Feeling rooted and grounded,
Allow the muscles of your face to soften as you breathe your natural way.
Breathing into the area of the eyes,
Allow all these muscles to expand.
Maybe even visualize the muscles around the eyes and the optic nerve going all the way down to the central nervous system,
Down the spine,
Connecting everything,
Visualizing a wave of relaxation rushing in through your eyes and going down your body.
Softening,
Releasing,
Allowing your body to know that this is time to rest and rejuvenate.
Breathing and settling,
Noticing any tension around the jaw or the mouth and making small little subtle movements to create space in this area.
Realizing any tension in the head and just breathing,
Noticing.
We're not trying to push away feelings.
We're just trying to notice as an observer,
Almost as if we're sitting behind a waterfall.
The water that we're watching is either our thoughts or our physical or emotional pain or discomfort.
We're just observing it,
Allowing it not to take us over,
Breathing,
Observing.
Now notice the area in your chest and your stomach,
Allow all these muscles to soften.
Allow your back,
Mid-back,
Low-back.
Breathing,
Releasing the stomachs of your muscles,
The muscles of your stomach,
Releasing any tension in the hands and the feet.
And now let a wave of relaxation wash over you like a warm Caribbean ocean path and feel settled.
Repeat these affirmations in your mind with conviction,
Whether you believe them or not.
Be kind to yourself.

I am brave enough to listen to the sensations and what they are trying to say about how I live my life.

I am open to change,
Discomfort and all spectrums of human emotions as that is living life to the fullest.

I will never give up physically,

If your mind has wandered,
Come back to the breath,
Recommit to the practice,
Taking a deep breath in through the nose,
Feeling your body rooted,
Grounded and as you exhale,
Release anything that is tensed up,
Shift in any way to become more comfortable.
Notice if your hands are loose in your feet.
If there's any tension in the face,
Let the next breath wash over you,
Releasing,
Softening and letting go.
Always remember you are capable,
You can do this,
You are not alone.
Through these practices we can remember that pain is inevitable but suffering is optional.
When you're ready,
Open your eyes,
Bring some movement to your body,
Thank yourself for your practice today and I thank you for allowing me the precious gift of your time.
Until next time.
