I am fascinated by our universe so naturally, as a musician, sounds captured outside of our small existence on earth are also fascinating to me. These "sounds" are radio waves or electromagnetic vibrations that are emitted by celestial objects. Large radio telescopes can receive the sound if they are trained on these objects. (Remember the book and film, Contact?) I found a audio clip online from the Vela Pulsar PSR0833-45, slowed it down to half speed and transcribed part of the rhythm. Since it was percussive in origin, I used samples of an African thumb plucked instrument called an Mbira to play the rhythm and I chose a set of specific notes that I felt delivered a feeling of calm - sort of like a rhythmic windchime. At first, I thought this music would be too "active" for meditation but it quickly mesmerized me and I couldn't press stop - it turned out to be one of my favorite pieces! Headphones recommended. I hope you find this music soothing and immersive for your meditation.
