Oftentimes,
I'll hear people give up on meditation because they say it's too difficult,
Can't do it,
Can't focus,
Too many intrusive thoughts,
Can't stay focused.
And that's really the core of meditation is the training,
The training,
The practice,
The rehearsal to stay focused.
And I often present it this way.
It's like flexing a muscle.
So we're flexing the muscle of the mind and the more we do it,
The easier it gets and the stronger the mind gets to stay focused on what we choose to focus on.
So often we want to incorporate meditation as a,
I call it a mind training tool.
We incorporate meditation because we overthink or we have intrusive thoughts or there's a lot of chaos in our mind and we want to feel better.
Beautiful.
Meditation is a beautiful practice for that,
For addressing those consistent chaotic thoughts that seem to want to bombard us.
And it's a decision.
That we make to use meditation to calm the chatter,
To calm the chaos of the mind.
Remembering that there's no quick button right to push.
It's staying in the practice.
So meditation,
One pointed focus on purpose,
On one thing with intention.
And so let's say for example,
We're going to practice a meditation on focusing on our breath.
So we would place the hand,
Maybe both hands on our heart,
And we're just going to breathe into the heart.
And when we breathe in through the nose,
Into our heart,
Imagine with our mind's eye,
We're filling up the heart with a light.
Often we close our eyes.
When we close our eyes,
I imagine our eyelids are like pillows.
Blankets for the eyes,
Little covers for the eyes.
And we turn our eyes upward towards the third eye.
It activates part of the brain for creativity,
Imagination.
Inspired thinking.
And so we incorporate the eyes,
We soften the jaw,
We breathe in through the nose,
Hands on the heart,
And focus our attention on just filling our heart.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
And if you get an intrusive thought,
We say,
Okay,
I see that thought,
Let it pass by,
Come back to the heart.
And we continue to do that until we notice we're coming back less.
We're staying centered more often because we've been training the muscle of the mind to be present.
But it's the intention and committed practice to keep flexing the muscle of the mind to stay centered.
We breathe into the heart.
Breathe out.
Maybe a thought pops in,
We acknowledge the thought,
No judgment,
No story.
We let the thought float by,
Back to the heart.
Keep up the practice.
It will pay off.
When we do the work,
We get the results.
There's no way not to.
Enjoy.
