Hi it's me,
It's Angela Gale-James and again welcome to Sacred Spaces.
Today we're going to continue our journey in understanding imposter syndrome and reframing the imposter from pathology to portal.
This episode of this podcast is companion to the Substack article,
The Gifts of the Imposter.
We are sitting with someone who's often misunderstood,
Misnamed and misdiagnosed,
Often silenced or pathologized into oblivion.
She shows up right at the edge of something new.
She whispers in moments that could be magnificent and she curls around your voice just as you are about to speak the truth.
And her name,
The imposter.
But today we're going to call her something else.
We're going to call her a portal.
For so many of us,
Especially women,
Especially those who walk with deeps,
The imposter has become a kind of villain in our story.
Books have been written about how to silence her.
Coaches offer step-by-step tools to banish her.
That's not all of them though.
Affirmations are shouted to drown her out.
But here's what I want to ask.
What if she's not the problem?
What if she's the signal?
That signal that you've touched something tender,
Something sacred,
Something true.
Here is what I've learned.
The imposter doesn't show up when you're faking it.
She shows up when you're about to tell the truth.
When you're not performing,
When you're not hiding,
But when you're saying what you really believe.
And that beloved is why it feels so raw.
Because for years,
Maybe decades,
You've been taught to perform worthiness.
To match your value to validation.
To measure your contribution against someone else's scale.
And when you stopped doing that,
When you speak from your soul rather than your script,
The imposter rises.
She's not yet to sabotage you.
Rather to ask,
Are you sure that you're safe now?
Are you sure that this world is ready for your truth?
Are you sure you won't be cast out,
Misunderstood or unheld?
She's not sabotaging you.
She's protecting your deepest truth.
The part of you that once had to hide to survive.
So what if we looked at this archetype through a different lens?
The imposter is not a pathology.
She is a portal.
A protector of your essence.
A remnant of old survival self that learned to be palatable,
Predictable and pleasing.
And when she rises,
It's not because you're broken.
It's because you,
Beloved,
Are brave.
It means that you're speaking outside of the rules.
That you're choosing resonance over reputation.
And that you're no longer outsourcing your belonging.
This is not self-sabotage.
This is the echo of old conditioning cracking open.
And this is the moment,
The exact moment,
Where most people tried to override her.
They push through.
Hustle harder.
Work longer.
Chant affirmations that feel hollow.
She's here to tell you that there is a deeper invitation.
Don't bypass me.
Be with me.
Hold me.
Listen to me.
And thank me for what I have protected.
And gently,
I know that you don't need this protection anymore.
Because you're not performing.
Not proving.
Not remembering.
The imposter rises not to stop your truth.
But to signal that you are finally close to it.
She is the threshold guardian,
But she is not the gatekeeper.
You are.
And when you meet her with compassion,
When you hold her as a former version of you who did her job exquisitely,
Something changes.
The trembling becomes reverence.
The fear becomes trust.
And the silence becomes voice.
So if the imposter has come to visit you lately,
Maybe instead of asking,
How do I get rid of her,
You ask instead,
What truth is trying to come through me?
What part of me no longer needs to perform?
What contract am I ready to release?
And then breathe.
And speak anyway.
Not to prove.
Nor to impress.
But because the world is aching for your resonance.
To all who are walking this path.
The ones who feel the fear and speak it anyway.
The ones who are learning to trust the sound of their true voice.
The ones who no longer wish to wear the mask of competence at the cost of their soul.
I see you.
I honor the tenderness of this becoming.
And I want you to know that I have walked this path before you.
That you were never an imposter.
You were always the truth.
Welcome home beloved to your voice.
To your essence.
And to your truth.
Wishing you love,
Light and blessings in abundance.
Namaste
