The pranic bath is designed to show you how to take a deep breath without 'trying to take a deep breath.' It is based on Anandi's 'Surrendered Breath' practice featured in her book Breath Better, Sleep Better. During this practice, you'll feel like every single cell of your body benefits from fresh prana. You'll feel the prana going beyond your lungs as if the whole body is being filled with energy. This is so much more than air.

We will now start the pranic bath.

Get yourself into a comfortable position,

Laying on your back.

Make sure you have a cushion under your head and one under your knees to take the pressure off your back.

Your body should feel warm and heavenly and super comfortable.

If you need to adjust your position,

Press pause and do it right now.

Let the earth receive the weight of your body.

With each out breath,

Breathe out whatever blocks you from surrendering completely.

Just for now be boundless,

Infinite and expansive.

Scan the body for any tension and surrender even deeper to the earth.

Offer your body to the earth.

Now simply observe the breath.

Watch feel notice as the breath enters and leaves the body.

Notice the sensations as the body moves internally and externally with in and the out breath.

Keep watching and intensifying your awareness even more on your breath.

Pressing on your belly,

Observe the rise and fall of the belly with the in and the out breath.

Allow yourself to relax,

Melt and soften.

Continue observing the breath with your awareness on your belly.

Let your body breathe naturally.

Trust that your body will take the breath without you having to reach for it.

Don't try to force the breath in any way,

Just be with it as it arises.

Allow the body to breathe as it would naturally without you trying to control the breath.

Relax and just feel the breath.

You are not breathing the breath,

The breath is breathing you.

Allow yourself to surrender enough so you can feel as though you are being breathed by something greater than yourself.

Let yourself sink into stillness.

Start noticing the exchange of direction internally at the moment the out breath becomes the in breath and the in breath becomes the out breath.

Watch and notice in particular the pause between the in and the out breath.

Just watch as your awareness intensifies on this subtle pause.

Don't try to control the breath in any way,

Just observe the pause between the in breath and the out breath.

Now slightly increase that pause at the end of the out breath by maybe one second.

Just imagine you are giving the subtle energy more time to change direction.

You are not holding your breath,

You are simply waiting.

Keep your attention on that slight pause,

Watch,

Feel and notice the sensations as the breath spontaneously enters the body on the inhale.

And allow the body to release the breath when it is ready like a wave crashing to the shore as the breath leaves on the exhale.

Do not at any time try to breathe in or try to breathe out,

Just allow the door to the breath to open and close and completely surrender yourself to the earth.

Now increase the pause between the out breath and the in breath by another second or two.

And during that pause consciously release and dissolve the body into the earth.

You are simply waiting for the breath,

You are not holding your breath.

Just surrender yourself to the earth and do nothing.

As you relax and dissolve the body,

Focus on relaxing everything from the pubic bone downwards.

At the end of the out breath don't force,

Just completely let go and watch the downward sensation of the energy in the lower belly as the body starts to take the breath.

Imagine all the internal organs relaxing as the downward force eases the energy towards the earth but at the same time the upward forces start to rise the energy through the body.

Stay focused on this sensation as the breath enters the body.

If you remain patient the energetic breath will keep coming right up to your shoulder blades and even continue to the crown of your head and beyond.

Stay focused on this sensation as the energy and breath seeps through the body and out again.

Keep observing this for a few moments.

Continue to intensify your awareness on your belly,

Relax and dissolve the lower belly.

At the end of the out breath completely let go and watch the downward sensation of the energy in the lower belly as the body starts to take the breath.

Visualise the downward force as it coaxes the energy towards the earth and then notice the body expanding as the energy rises through the body.

If you lose the rhythm of surrender take a normal breath and just start again.

Now bring your attention to the upper body.

Careful not to lose the complete relaxation of the lower body.

Become aware of the rising forward direction of the chest as the breath fills the thoracic cavity and notice how on the out breath the chest moves down towards the mid belly.

Bring your attention back to the slight pause at the end of the inhale.

Don't be in a rush to exhale,

Allow the body to exhale when it's ready.

Watch the two forces of prana,

The primary air and apana,

The downward force bring the breath into the body and push the breath out of the body like a beautiful synchronised dance.

Prana the in breath and apana the out breath move towards each other and away from each other without ever losing contact.

Two energies separate but yet still entwined,

They move in glorious unity complementing each move with another and basking in union in the flames of the fire in the centre of the body.

Continue observing this for a few moments.

Now relax the skin around the body,

Imagine that there are no boundaries and you've become one with the environment.

Maintain the attitude of surrender.

Imagine you are breathing in synchronicity with the universe,

Watching,

Feeling,

Allowing the universal breath to lovingly massage you from the inside.

Feel the blissful sensations as you allow your body to fill with prana.

Savour every single moment it's divine.

Stay here for a few moments.

Now completely release your attention from the breath.

Allow any sensations to melt away,

Just allow yourself to be in the state of being.

Float in the bliss from this practice and savour each and every moment.

Be in this moment.

Stay here for a few moments.

Now slowly start to prepare to return to your body.

Bring your attention to your physical body and where it meets the earth.

Make small movements with your hands and your feet and move your head from side to side.

Bring your right arm above your head and slowly roll over onto your right side and help yourself up with your hands.
