Lectio Divina or divine reading is an ancient prayer method that was used up to the 16th century generally and is alive today in contemplative groups and retreats around the world.
It's an organic process that engages the mind,
The heart and the spirit in connective contemplation.
There are four movements,
Lectio,
Meditatio or Ratio and Contemplatio,
Reading,
Listening with the spirit,
Praying and then opening to inside.
As we move through the stages I'll remind you of what to do but as this is designed as a natural progression please allow yourself to be moved by the flow of your own process.
In this contemplation I will pause between each stage before continuing.
So let's begin with the reading and within this first stage allow the second stage also,
That is to allow yourself to be caught opening to something,
Some word or some phrase that may speak to you.
Psalm 139 If I go up to the heavens,
You are there.
If I make my bed in the depths,
You are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
If I settle on the far side of the sea,
Even there your hand will guide me,
Your right hand will hold me fast.
If I go up to the heavens,
You are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
If I settle on the far side of the sea,
Even there your hand will guide me,
Your right hand will hold me fast.
If I go up to the heavens,
You are there.
If I make my bed in the depths,
You are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
If I settle on the far side of the sea,
Even there your hand will guide me,
Your right hand will hold me fast.
And we meditate on the word or phrase that caught us.
We meditate on the word or phrase that caught us.
We meditate on the word or phrase that caught us.
And what does it say to you?
To your life.
Allowing now your heart to be touched,
Praying for help to understand more and allowing other questions from your inner self to surface.
Amazing!
You and now quieting the voice a noise the talk quieting the heart and the mind and simply waiting opening into a deep contemplation and perhaps inside the if I go up to the heavens you are there If I make my bed in the depths you are there If I rise on the wings of the dawn If I settle on the far side of the sea Even there your hand will guide me Your right hand will hold me fast
