Plant Music For Sleep And Dreams With Calea Zacatechichi
by Nick Gent
Unwind before bed with this first journey in my Plant Medicine Music series, featuring Calea zacatechichi, the Mexican dream herb traditionally associated with dream divination among the Chontal people of Oaxaca. Before recording, I spoke my intention for rest and dreaming to the plant, approaching it as a sacred companion at the threshold of sleep. Through biofeedback devices and musical mapping, its changing electrical measurements trigger custom synthesiser instruments I created using field recordings of water, wind and other natural sounds. The musical performance unfolds from the plant’s input, with my mixing and minimal editing preserving its spontaneous phrasing and unusual patterns. Listen quietly as part of your bedtime ritual, allowing this sound journey to accompany deep listening, relaxation and your own intention for the night.
