Hello,
Hello,
This is Sophie from MindsetRx and I'm joining you today to start looking back at messages and beliefs and thoughts that we've carried with us for such a long,
Long time that may not represent the future that we are dreaming for ourselves,
The aspirations that we are reaching towards.
And so gently over this next few minutes,
We're going to give ourselves the reassurance,
The affirmation,
The encouragement,
The comfort that we've always sought after,
Always desired.
And it's funny,
Isn't it?
Because we talk to other people about these things,
And so often we know the words we want to hear.
But so often our dearest ones,
Our friends,
Our therapists,
They fall short,
But not through lack of love or lack of kindness or a lack of compassion,
But from a lack of understanding.
But we're coming from an abundance of understanding today,
Because no one knows you,
Your experiences,
Your lifetime,
Better than you.
So using that power,
Using that strength,
Using the language that you know you recognize,
That you so very much want to hear,
Come back with me and let's say those words to ourselves now.
So find yourself somewhere comfortable where you won't be interrupted,
Where you can sit or lie or even lean.
And just make sure that you are supported so that your body can completely relax.
And as you sit or lie or lean,
Bring your attention down to your lungs for me.
And as you breathe in,
Feel your lungs expand within that cavity of your chest.
And as you exhale,
Feel your lungs deflate.
And isn't it funny to think that through every second of every minute of every hour of every day of every week of every month of every year,
Our lungs are quietly breathing for us.
And see now if you can concentrate really hard and can you feel the surface of your lungs sliding against the surface of your ribs?
It might be funny to think about.
It might be too much to think about,
And that's totally fine too.
But just come back to recognizing that this mechanical action is happening all the time for us.
And we need not concentrate on it.
And we need not control it.
We need not be aware of it.
We can just trust that we are being looked after.
That these functions happen.
And here,
Whilst we're focusing on something so intrinsic,
Allow your mind's eye to drift and dream.
And all I want you to do is allow yourself to follow my voice.
If thoughts pop in,
Recognize them.
Acknowledge them.
Thank them.
But tell them that you'll come back to them later.
And for now,
You're just following my voice.
And as you follow my voice,
Allow your mind's eye to tumble or circle.
Or glide backwards in time.
And you're going to glide or tumble or circle your way gently back to somewhere you may have been around age 12.
And it may be somewhere you've been before.
It might be somewhere that's completely new to you.
Or it might be a place that you loved to be when you were 12.
Or you might have a number of different memories all piling in.
But that's okay.
One will settle.
You might find yourself in your bedroom or in a park.
Or on the beach.
Or at school.
On the playing field.
On the sports pitch.
Wherever you are,
You are safe,
You're comfortable,
And you are happy.
And as you look around,
You see your 12-year-old self.
You are there playing.
Or sitting.
Or reading.
Or daydreaming.
Whatever it might be,
Your 12-year-old self is there.
And you look upon them.
And you recognise what they're wearing.
You recognise their shoes.
You recognise their clothing.
You recognise their hair.
The sparkle in their eyes.
And you look down upon them now with awe.
And amazement.
And love.
And you look.
And you realise how perfect your 12-year-old self is in every way.
And as you are pondering this,
And just observing and watching,
Your 12-year-old self looks up at you directly.
Slightly startling to begin with,
Because you don't know what to say.
But they look at you,
And they look into your eyes with such sincerity,
Such authenticity,
Such honesty.
And then they say,
Are you me?
I recognise you.
Are you me?
And you reply,
And you say,
Yes,
I'm you.
I'm your older self.
And with that,
If it feels comfortable to do so,
You can hug one another.
Heart to heart.
Chest to chest.
And as you squeeze your younger self,
You feel how small and how fragile they feel.
But yet how powerful and strong and alive and how capable they are.
And you hold each other,
And they hug you back,
And it feels incredible.
Simply incredible.
And as you come out of the hug,
Your 12-year-old self has so many questions.
And they ask them all now.
It might start with,
What are you doing here?
Why have you come?
Is everything OK?
And you respond,
And you say,
I've come to meet you.
Meet you where you are.
To help us provide ourselves with the best future possible.
Because I know the words you want to hear.
Your 12-year-old self just glows with pride and awe.
And they look at you as though you are the wise one.
As you are what they've always been hoping for,
Wishing for.
And you realise that this is what you've been wishing for.
You are what you've been hoping for.
And with that,
You walk.
And you can walk in the environment you're in,
Or you can walk along a beach or up a mountainside.
Or you could walk in a valley with beautiful views,
Along a river,
Beside a stream.
In a snowy outcrop of land.
Wherever you may wish to be,
You can walk there now,
And you can walk together.
And as you walk,
The questions come.
And only you know what these questions are.
But you answer them truthfully and honestly,
With compassion,
Love,
Positivity,
And encouragement.
And you realise as you do this,
It's the easiest thing to do,
To encourage this 12-year-old.
To allow them to see the possibilities,
The opportunities.
The vastness of their future.
And how it comes to you that they only need to seek joy and enjoyment.
And if they've experienced extraordinary hardship,
Meet that with the compassion it deserves.
But recognise them for their strength,
Their courage,
And their bravery.
And if they have something they want to talk to you about,
That's been difficult or troubling,
Or difficult to understand,
You don't need to have the answers,
But you can speak to them in the language that they want to hear.
Tell them that they are loved.
Tell them that you believe them.
Tell them that you are there for them,
And you are here for them always.
If they are troubled by things that are going on in their life,
Or choices they need to make,
Or the people who they are surrounded by,
Reassure them.
That the right path will become clear,
As it always has.
And reassure them that you,
As you are now standing in front of them,
You have survived every single hardship.
Every trial,
Every tribulation.
Every obstacle that has been brought your way,
You,
Your 12-year-old self,
Survives and is successful,
Despite everything you've experienced.
And that is the celebration.
That is the realisation.
That is the torchlight that you are giving your 12-year-old self.
They have the knowledge that they will succeed,
And they will be successful.
So as you walk now,
You choose to share with them your life now.
Little tidbits of what you've grown up to be.
Give them that insight into where they can strive towards.
Allow them to know that their choices,
Whatever choices they make,
Result in happiness and joy,
And that they deserve that joy.
And yes,
They will find love.
Yes,
They will find people to surround themselves with,
Who appreciate them and love them.
And yes,
Things will be difficult.
But love is always there.
And your 12-year-old looks back at you quizzically.
They don't quite believe you.
And you think to yourself,
Well,
I don't always believe myself either.
But then in this moment,
You look at one another,
And you realise that that is the love.
Undeniably,
You love your 12-year-old self.
And without question,
The eyes with which your 12-year-old self is now looking back at you,
Those eyes they're looking back at you with,
They are filled with love,
Admiration,
Pride.
Just honest,
Pure love.
And you feel your heart swell in this moment,
Because you know that whatever happens,
You are surrounded by this love.
And you're spurred on by this thought,
And you say to your 12-year-old self,
Whatever happens,
I am always here for you.
Always.
You may not be able to see me,
But you can feel me,
And you can hear me.
So ask for your older self,
And it might be me,
It might be older than me,
It might be younger than I am now,
But older than you are.
And what a conundrum that presents for our brains.
But you can ask your older self for advice and guidance,
And when we're quiet and we listen,
That reassurance,
That advice,
And that guidance,
It is there.
It is always,
Surely there.
And you tell your 12-year-old self this,
And they look back at you,
And it's like all weight has been lifted off their shoulders,
That they have support,
They have unconditional love,
They have guidance with them,
And you feel that same weight lifting too.
Like a lead coat has been removed.
And remember,
Right now,
In amongst the environment you're in,
The whole landscape seems to shift to a slightly different colour.
There might be sunset yellow hues,
There might be bright summer vibrancy,
Spring greens,
Winter coolness,
But whatever the colour is around you,
It's there,
You can feel it.
And your 12-year-old self feels that colour too,
And that is nourishing you,
Willing you forwards,
Painting the picture from which you can now move on from.
And you explain to your 12-year-old self that all they need to do is ask for help,
And you'll be there.
You explain that you're going to go back to where they were playing or hanging out before,
And that time will continue.
But from this moment on,
Things are forever changed.
And that they never need to feel alone or unsupported again,
Or misunderstood,
Or betrayed,
Or overwhelmed.
Because everything you need is within you,
With love.
And with that,
At the end of that sentence,
You find yourself back at the place where you began.
And your 12-year-old self has gone back to playing,
Or hanging out,
Or doing what it was they were doing before,
And you just watch.
You might watch for 30 seconds,
Or a minute,
Could be as long as an hour,
Even a day.
You watch as they go about their life,
With love and awe.
And as you do,
You notice that from you to them is this vapour,
A vapour of love.
And it streams from your heart to theirs.
And it's endless,
And it creates this trail of wherever they go,
Like stardust.
And it's beautiful.
And it's comforting.
And as you look down,
Quizzically,
You notice that there is also a trail of stardust going from you.
And you wonder,
Where is that stardust coming from?
And you realise that it's always been with you.
That trail,
That vapour of stardust,
Is love,
Unconditional love,
And it's coming from your future self to you now.
And your future self is sending you that love.
So as that 12 year old,
You have grown into the adult that you are now.
But this trail of stardust and love that you created for yourself in this moment continues,
And has always continued.
And it is coming to you now,
From your happy,
Healthy,
Abundant,
Vibrant,
Wonderful future self.
And as you allow yourself to drink that compassionate knowledge in,
And to allow it to fill every cell of your body with joy and love and hope and wonderment,
You find yourself coming back to the present,
And you feel the surface upon which you are sitting,
Or leaning,
Or lying.
You feel it warm against you,
Supportive,
Gentle.
And you can gently bring yourself back into your body,
Allow the tiniest bit of movement to return to your toes,
The tiniest bit of movement to return to your fingertips.
And then whenever you're ready,
And there is no rush,
It is in your time entirely,
You can blink your eyes open,
And as you do,
You recognise that something already in your world has changed.
From my heart to yours,
Have the most magical,
Magical day.
