Hello friend,
You are here and that can feel very,
Very frustrating.
Maybe your mind is so busy it begins to catastrophize.
Maybe your body simply cannot soften with the mind racing and at these times it can often feel there's no one to listen,
Nowhere to turn,
But I'm here.
Tonight is not a problem to solve,
It's just an experience to be met and it's an experience that all of us will have at some point.
You are not alone,
I'm going to sit with you for as long as you want,
I'm here for you.
There's no right position for this moment.
Lying down flat,
Curled up,
Stretched out,
Even restless and fidgety is okay.
Let this be a place where nothing needs fixing.
If your mind is racing that's okay too.
You don't have to chase it,
You don't have to stop it.
And it might be hard to even grasp my words through the thoughts and that is okay too.
Just reaching out for this guide in the night is a good starting point.
Just notice thinking is happening.
You are not failing at sleep.
You are simply here in a moment of being human.
Your amazing body knows how to restore itself even in wakefulness.
And we're going to see if we can help it by softening wherever possible.
You might place a hand on your heart and offer yourself something kind.
With you,
We'll get through this night.
You're allowed to rest even like this.
Bring awareness to your breath and just notice,
Observe.
See where you feel it the most tonight.
See if you can take a slow breath in through your nose and draw it right down deep into your belly.
See if you can move the breath right down to inflate the belly.
Now back to its normal steady rhythm.
And now feel the back of your body being supported.
Wait without asking anything in return.
Right now in this moment,
There's no need to hold yourself up physically.
Maybe it's the tiny muscles around the eyes.
Maybe there's tension in the spine.
Maybe your jaw is tense.
Maybe you can soften the tongue from the roof of the mouth.
Can you savor each breath?
As if it were gifting you eight hours of sleep.
It's still nourishing.
You are safe to rest here as long as you like.
